Early Serotta Pics?
Looking for pics of Serotta bikes dating 1980 or earlier - thing that would be commonly labeled the Club Special. Have seen pics of 80's Serotta's but haven't found pics of earliest Serotta's. Anyone out there?

Paceline Forum is the old Serotta forum. They have an image area also there. You may find what you are looking for with some digging there. Oh, and all the catalogs are there.

Oh, snap. I may have pictures somewhere but that was from long ago. Film. Perhaps somewhere buried in a box somewhere or maybe gone.
What I do have is a receipt from when the frame was purchased in May, 1980.

This was a 56cm frame size Club Special in Blue Imron. Yellow Serotta graphics.

From memory, (keep in mind that someone close to me pointed out that I only remember the stuff that was important to me) it had Columbus SL tubing. Whether it was SL or SP, I am not 100% confident, but it was Columbus that was tubing used for the Club Special. The dove decal was right below the seat cluster on the seat tube (the typical postion). Lugs were clean and simple. I have heard that they were Prugnat. There were no eyelets on the Campagnolo dropouts and fork ends. The dropouts were horizontal.
Paint and lug shorelines were perfect even where you don't always see.
Cinelli bottom bracket.

I have a pretty early Serotta, but it's been repainted and the graphics (not to mention the paint) aren't correct.

I came across this one on CL a month or so ago. Chatting with the seller, he said he had the graphics reproduced when it was repainted. I saved the pic somewhere, but can't find them right now. His listing is still active.

Edit: though it's still on Craigslist for now, I snatched the photos so I have them to refer to when my Serotta gets a repaint.

Thanks, this frame looks similar to the one I've seen recently, guessing very late 70's to 1981 or so??

Thanks. That seems to be about what the seller in NJ has on his bike, sans the "Club Special" top tube decal. I suspect it was made before Serotta started producing different models other than road and touring.
The brochure Keith A posted to the Serotta Forums BITD (now the Paceline) might also provide some suggestions about proper early decal style and layout.
A bit further down in the thread there's a slight later catalog with actual model names.

That brochure identified four models, road, touring, standard criterium and standard economy. I don't think Ben distinguished them with decals. You need to measure them and check for dropout manufacturers and styles to narrow down what you have.
