Drillium Disaster!

Seen recently on Facebook Marketplace; still up as of writing: _https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/26058860817121319/

Looks to be a Centurion Dave Scott Iron Man with Shimano 600 EX... infested with aluminum-eating termites:

Centurions are Japanese bikes right? Because this bike is definitely Swiss.

Bikes: Litespeed Ultimate, Ultegra; Canyon Endurace, 105; Battaglin MAX, Chorus; Bianchi 928 Veloce; Ritchey Road Logic, Dura Ace; Cannondale R500 RX100; Schwinn Circuit, Sante; Lotus Supreme, Dura Ace

Bet if whistles like crazy at speed.

It's my size, but I wouldn't trust my fat ass to that cheese grater seatpost, and the stem looks like it'd tear apart the first time anyone tries to muscle it up a steep pitch, but that's okay because the cranks will break off first.

Bikes: Hi-Ten bike boomers, a Trek Domane and some projects

It says $600 invested. Just how many drill bits did it take?

The seller regularly puts bikes up with excess drillium like this.

sad that facebook won't let you flag this as a hazard

Bikes: (2) ti TiCycles, 2007 w/ triple and 2011 fixed, 1979 Peter Mooney, ~1983 Trek 420 now fixed and ~1973 Raleigh Carlton Competition gravel grinder

It's a Centurian. For people who've been around at least a century. That's a 36,500 day century, not 5-6 hours, a bunch of water bottles and a huge plate of pasta.

I saw a Cannondale frame once, stripped, polished, and swiss-cheesed with 3/4" holes.

(On display, not built.)

It would be amusing if the drill operator weighed the bike before and after all the drilling. Oh, but then he would realize how foolish all of this is.

It's not a disaster until it breaks, just potential disaster.

I was brought home from the hospital in a white Corsair Monza. Front seat in Mom's arms. Metal dash inches away. Fumes.

Hmmm, maybe thats what's wrong with me.

Reminds me of:

"the drilling is done for function and weight reduction. if drilling is slightly off a rider would never be ble to feel it. you ride a bike with your legs, not your eyes. noone has ever won a Tour De France using their eyes. this is not for old men trying to create a museum type bike that they always wanted. this is for a person to need to reduce weight and to be FAST!"

"This crankset is not for the older man who is trying to recreate something ORIGINAL that he always wanted and say "i finally got it after 4 decades!". this is for the person who is actually riding and getting a good deal on a very good crankset."DONT BE AFRAID TO STEP OUT OF THE BOX!" If you fall down and break your hip it just means your rode to the very end of your life! That is called passion!! and you have Obama care! THE WEIGHT IS VERY CLOSE TO SUPER RECORD 11. I KNOW MANY BABY BOOMERS MAY NOT HAVE NOT HAVE THE PRIVILEGE TO OWN SUPER RECORD 11. BUT THE WEIGHT IS VERY CLOSE. AT ONLY 10% OF THE COST! THIS IS A DEAL! YOUR WHITE HAIRED WIFE WON'T GET ON YOU FOR SPENDING TOO MUCH! EVERYONE IS HAPPY! ask her for permission to bid. it's only starting at $49 and no reserve!"

I learned to drive in a '63 Corvair convertible. I remember the fumes to this day.

Brother bought a '65 Corsa, had never driven stick shift before.

Came with four carbs, I discovered a couple years later two'd never, ever been connected. Good thing too I 'spose, cause two were enough to get him almost killed one icy winter night. Had he had four keeping that engine spinning he might not have survived....

As for drillium, all I can say is: Let the chips fall where they may! I ain't gonna sweep 'em up!
