Novarra?

Our department gets a lot of abandoned/recovered bikes; the students leave 'em when they graduate. We keep 'em for a while then toss 'em if they're junk or donate 'em if they're any good. I've been able to salvage/recondition several.

At present we have a Novarra MTB outside. I thought at first this was just another junker, but a closer look reveals all Deore LX components, Tange double-butted cro-mo tubing, Araya rims, etc.

In other words, an older but decent bike. Don't recall seeing anything on these; perhaps one of the many import lines that dried up?

Novara is REI's housebrand. Good value bikes, imo, and if it's in decent shape this might be a good reclamation project.

Bikes: some but not enough

Some ****** abandoned an LX equiped bike out to rot? Most people wish they can save enought money to buy an LX anything .... even if it is REI house brand ... or especially if it were from shee shee REI. This bike should be donated/given to a student who is struggling to pay for his or her tuition. The previous owner should be hunted down and made to live a month in a world without designer flip flops, baseball caps, polar fleece, micro beer, Abnormality and Finch, Starbucks, wholefoods, mom & dad's credit cards nor their trust fund.

This is pretty much a "high rent" school; you'd be amazed what the kiddies leave behind. I have a Raliegh 500 roadster in my shed I collected from one of the frats. It was sitting upside down behind the house with the front wheel missing. There were a couple of lads still there (moving out) and I asked about it; they said "that guy graduated two years ago, you can have it if you want".

Thing has double-butted 7005 tubing, straight RSX components (triple), Mavic semi-aero rim on the back....All functional and only in need of a bit of cleaning and TLC. These evidently retailed for 7-8 bills.

I'll put a wheel and two new tires on it and sell it for 300 or so, I reckon.

Yup, another rich brat without a clue. When I attended "Holes in My Underwear U", I wouldn't have thrown away a 15 year old Huffy if it has any potential life left in it.

Yeah, and Hua Hua too
maybe in Ca, there are "outdoor" stores that sell rhinestone studded water cages, but here the REI's are up there even if they still have a bid of psuedo core...even if every other car in the car park is a Bimmer or Porche SUV.
But seriously, Bikewer, you should get a few bucks off some bikes (DOG knows if they pay you enought), but please try to spend some of that cash to bring some of the other bikes back to ridable and give them to some of the kids they let in for being too poor to pay for tuition. Your sense of social justice will thank you.

btw: eletra....isn't she the greek chick who had an incessuous relationship w her dad?
but how would I know? I am a product of the NYC public school system.

Bikes: Victoria's Secret Pink

I have one from REI mine is a limited edition... On one side it says Novara and on the other it says Novaro. I bought mine in '97 its blue and the model is called a Ponderosa, I think I paid about $700. I still ride it but more as a beach cruiser than off road as it is a hard tail and I tend to bounce off into the snakes and bushes. dont toss it- its a great bike for a student on limited funds.
