help with a pug
hey all, i just bought a old pug from the goodwill store and i was wondering if some one could help me identify it. its in really good shape minus a broken gear cable. its light ice blue with a checkered flag emblem on the seat post. no chrome fork, has simplex drive train with the shifters mounted on the bottom tube. it has weinmann brakes, the top tube says competition, and the serial number in the bottom bracket is a sticker and not stamped # 2640830 with c50cx written underneath it. i'm no pug expert but i'm guessing its a early eighties model....but not sure. its real clean and a easy fixer...any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks

more about my bike.... the serial number has no prefix so telling by some sites its a 70's era bike...but the markings are very similar to very early eighties..telling by brochures, no later than a 82. the brake cables are run under the top tube instead of on top and...it still has the cottered crank. the wheels have no markings nor are there any on the drop outs so i know it is not a track bike. the peugeot writing on the bottom tube is in orange lettering..exactly like the 1980-1983 models...but since i have no other sources i have to guess...anyone with any ideas let me know...thanks

The competition model was one down from the top of the line in the 1979/80 years, and was a PK10, the replacement for the PR10. The three main tubes were Reynolds 531; check for a 531 sticker of the remeanents of right above the downtube shifters. However, the cottered crank and the low run of the rear brake cable sound like a lower end model. These would likely have a carbolite 103 sticker in place of the Reynolds, given the era. A picture would be massively helpful, as the description at this point is somewhat confusing. A PK would be identified as such on the serial number sticker at this age, so it's prolly out.

thanks,..i appreciate the return. i have not seen a sticker on it above the shifters..some light scratching ..could have been a sticker once. i wish i had a way of taking a pic of it. does the printing of a serial number make a difference. the sites i have been to said that pugs were either stamped with a number or had it on a aluminum id plate. this one has neither, just a sticker with the serial number which has 7 digits and no prefix...but under the number it says "c50cx" this mean anything ?? i saw the same designation on a japanese site but i cannot read japanese......uguh !!! any response will be great....thanks
