Oops - hand polished classic Campy seatpost

My very big bad! This beautiful 27.2mm seatpost was such a tight fit, even with a loose clamp bolt, someone had twisted it back and forth for height adjustment and marred the surface with ugly, cross-hatch scuff marks you can just see in the picture (yes, it was greased). No problem thinks I - just a light rubdown with Simichrome aluminum polish should restore it like new. The scuff marks polished out fine but to my dismay the post was now way too loose. Who would imagine a simple polishing would remove so much metal? A bitter lesson indeed.

hmm, I had the same situation with an old SR (campy) seatpost a few months ago on a colnago I bought; also deeply scored, and used several grades of fine sandpaper, steel wool, and lotsa car polish, and it looks great now and is still tight... proving again how much better the old stuff is~!

Do you really believe that "a light rubdown" with Simichrome removed enough material to make a tight-fitting seatpost fit loosely?
