std. peugeot ident. request...

Just bought a Peugeot:

Women's frame?, white with black/gold decals and "Record Du Monde" badge on seat tube.
Riveted tag under BB: 1746393
Mafac Racer brakes
Steel Rigida rims, Normandy hubs, Simplex quick release axels
Simplex Prestige deraileurs
Fenders with "Soubitez" headlight, taillight, and 6V generator
Rear rack with a Peugeot Record Du Monde flag? hanging from it
I don't know what sort of cranks are on it, but they're cottered.

Oh, and a nice, cushy Peugeot seat in really good shape.

Anyone know what model this is? The paint scheme, deraileurs, and cranks seem similar to my UO8, but it has the fenders, lights, rack and the "Racer" brakes, whereas my UO8 brakes just say "Mafac". I was also struck by the top tube, which is two small tubs that slowly spread out from each other, go around the seat tube, and all the way back to the dropouts.

Any explanation of model/year would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
adam

Bikes: 1959 Capo Modell Campagnolo; 1960 Capo Sieger (2); 1962 Carlton Franco Suisse; 1970 Peugeot UO-8; 1982 Bianchi Campione d'Italia; 1988 Schwinn Project KOM-10;

UE-18 circa 1971. The frame style is mixte, pronounced "meeext." The stripped-down American version is the UO-18; the European version has lamps and mudguards, as described.

Those vinyl Peugeot flags came boxec with every new Peugeot of that era, as a marketing gimmick.

Thanks John! I don't understand how people like you know all of this stuff...but it certainly is helpful.

Any idea what the mixte design was for? Was there any special reason to split the top tube like that?

Thanks again,
adam

The mixte was the successor to the traditional step-through, or womens', frame. The twin toptubes running from the headtube to the rear dropouts gives the mixte greater rigidity than a traditional step-through.
