What year is it?
I just bought a Trek 520 its supposed to be a 99 model according to the seller. She gave me a sells ticket that reads 8-99, but the owners manuel has a copyright of 02. Can anybody identify the serial #1445902 also on the other side of the BB is stamped 520 21 BIC405.

"What year is it?" --- It is 2005. 
I guess this one is too new for www.vintage-trek.com , since it is after 1997. You serial number falls into the range listed for 1995 fwiw. Don't know how to explain the other information you have there. Hopefully someone with a newer Trek can help. Maybe a posting on the Road forum would put you in touch with more owners from that time period.
