Bikes: Still have a few left!
Agreed, I've been buying bikes like this for $10-$25 for the past 5 years or so but the supply seems to be drying up. Guess its just supply & (insane) demand. Don

Bikes: yeah; got a couple...
THAT's no Varsinental...! Though it looks much like them, it's got a fillet brazed chrome-moly frame, and decent alloy components...And, it's a very uncommon model. While not worth $400 in my opinion, it's pretty cool for a non-Paramount Schwinn.

I suppose the bidders actually knew what they were bidding on.
As opposed to those who seem to think it's some gaspipe "Electrofusion Welded" variant of the Varsity.
See https://www.sheldonbrown.com/schwinn-braze.html
OTOH if Ollo really has been finding high quality, fillet brazed 4130, framed Superiors, Super Sports and Sport tourers for $10-$25 I'd love to know where.

Bikes: Gazelle Trim Trophy, EG Bates Track Bike, HR Bates Cantiflex bike, Nigel Dean fixed gear conversion, Raleigh Royal, Falcon Westminster.
Yet another of those "I wish I'd bought lots of those ten years ago and kept them" moments.

The seller wisely turned down the 65$ offer... I'm with Zorro, two folks decided they just had to have this one... their business, their cash. I have, however, noticed that the price for lower end vintage road bikes has gone up noticably in the last six months, on ebay if not here.

For old Schwinn road bikes, that are in ridable condition, I'd pay the following amounts (maximum):
1) Varsintental -- $20
2) Super Sport -- $50
3) Sports Tourer/Superior -- $100
$415 is Paramount money -- and then only if it's in excellent condition.

I don't know Schwinn values, but I would question any auction that claimed that the bike rides well with a seat adjusted like that one...

Bikes: Crap. The box is not big enough...
yeah. but you can tell by the tilt of the seat that Marilyn Monroe once sat astride it. That would make it worth about $40k, if it has the original patina preserved...

I never found a Superior and I quickly learned to remove & replace the Brooks saddle for separate sale. The most I could ever sell one for was $75.00 but if I run across another of these straight gauge chrome moly jobs I'll gladly put it up for $100 + shipping. Also, the fillet brazing wasn't so perfect either. Don

Made a long day seem a little shorter.
Regarding the bike: That's insane. I wish I were the seller but that bike is far away from being anything that special.
Auction fever or 2 guys with some loose coin had uncontrollable nostalgia attacks.
Do wish I were the seller though...
