Nice Rene Herse on eBay

I was searching eBay for a cheap French bike to build up with my excess French parts when I found this:

https://tinyurl.com/7t9yg

He's local, so at least I could save a few bucks on shipping.

Who am I kidding? I can't even afford the VAR lock ring pliers he's selling.

If it was in a more popular color and or in Chrome.... it would be higher than what it is now. Thank goodness it is too big for me.

Bikes: Crap. The box is not big enough...

This was listed once before, I believe, and went to $7600, and didn't make reserve. It would fit everything about me but my pocketbook...does anyone know what the appraised value of such a thing would be?

I'm sooooo glad it's a tiny little thing. Phew. I'm also happy that one in my size would likely sell for less. Not that I could afford it anyway.

Hey! there are three Herses on eBay right now. The randonneur, an upright utility/city machine, and a tandem! Like, it is almost raining expensive French bikes right now...

If you're interested in a Rene Herse you may want to pick up a spare French chain... the other end of the continuum!

Bikes: 1972 Peugeot UO-8, Strawberry conversion

Pardon my ignorance, why are these so expensive?

Lesse...
Cool RH designed bike bits
Legendary French builder
Carefully and beautifully handcrafted bike
Low supply, high demand (always the killer)
Ne plus ultra of Frenchness

It's definitely cool, and the internal cabling is awesome, but I've seen four wheeled vehicles of the same year go for less...

geez. I've seen whole double-wides go for less. But its hard to ride a double-wide, and you don't get the envy of everyone at Classic Rendezvous (unless maybe its an Airstream...)
