I have a mid 70's Marinoni that has a set of Sugino Mighty Coompetition cranks that look a lot like old Campy Record cranks. As a mater of fact, the small chain ring (44t) is Campy while the large ring (50t) is Sugino Mighty Competion.

They crank looks cool but how is the quality? Should I swap it out for a Campy Record?

Only if you want Italian. Good cranks, Campagnolo chainring compatible, spindle length may differ from Campagnolo. Is the BB Sugino? Or?

I bought a set on ebay for $25. I felt I got a deal, when it arrived I really had a deal, came with a perfect Campagnolo 54T outer ring. "52 tooth chainrings just don't cut it... " was the quote from John Howard in 1974.

For Styling though, its Campagnolo, no contest.

They are pretty good cranks. I run a couple sets of them on some bikes that I have. As you said, they are Campy Nouvo Record knockoffs. Many with the Campy cranks run a Campy large ring and a Sugino inner chainring. The inner ring isn't all that visible and is way cheaper than the Campy rings. I have heard that the Sugino rings are not as hard as the Campy rings and wear faster, but I don't know if it's true or not.

They make great cranks, and the old one will last a lifetime.

Sorry, I beg to differ. The second-generation Mighty Compes (ca. 1969-72, 144mm BCD) had at least 1mm less metal around the pedal eye than the later versions. I snapped one (20 years old, with perhaps as much as 25k mi / 40k km on it) at the pedal eye during an out-of-saddle climb up a modest 7 percent grade. I do not trust ANY aluminum crank with alot of miles on it.

They maynot be Campy but to me they look great! Work wonderful and have a lot of folks scratching their head wondering what they are!

The Sugino Might Comps were great cranks. They were Campy knock-offs, well made, nicely machined and fairly stiff. The chainrings did wear faster than Campy, however. Japanese aluminum chainrings were softer.

I sold a set of Sugino Mighty Tours last week - guy loved them - was a dealer - 50/34 is a great combination, he bought a set of similar campy at the same time, as well a set of tandem Specialized cranks. Sugino cranks are not equal even by year and they made and make a wide variety of cranks so be careful you know what you are getting. I just bought a NOS of AT's for my touring bike with the 110 bolt pattern and put a new set of raceface 48/34/24 chain rings on them - but not mounted yet. As for their new ones XD'd - they sell a zillion models - Rivendale as a nice set, cold forged, nice rings. I like Sugino alot - I even run Mighty Tours on my Tandem, but as I stated they are not equal. Some of their private label cranks are some their best,
