I am thinking of parting out the bk vitus since I probably will get the most $$ for it.
I can really use some more opinions

Blue Dale

Assuming all are fit to you, the Red Vitus, as it looks too small. But in eyeballing the images it is interesting that the black Vitus appears smaller than the Red one, top tube different length?

Sell the Red Vitus as a frameset, box the parts. Perhaps Nashbar still has one of the 58cm NOS Vitus frames you could purchase for the future.

Selling prior to Christmas is dangerous, folk are thinking gift shopping, your spouse could even expect the funds from a sale to be put toward a downpayment on her gift.

Sharp eyes #6 the black one is a little smaller then the red one, all the frames run about 53 54cm. but the but the blk vitus has 52 stamped on the head tube and the red has 53 stamped on the head tube.
I REALLY thought about keeping on one at a buddy's house but it would be in staten island, I am in NYC that pretty much means I wont be seeing it in a while

I've got it! Take one of the bikes, pack it and give it to your wife for Christmas. Do ya think she'll notice?

I'm in the same boat; I have to decide whether to dump a NOS Raleigh Super Grand Prix or a low-end bike-boom Atalia I've ridden for 30 years in order to keep the Miyata 512 I'm re-habing. They're all lower down the food chain than yours, but they're what I've got to deal with.

Hey, I live in Brooklyn, you can store them in my place. No, just kidding, too small for me. But seriously, I was actually thinking about renting a small rental unit in Manhattan to store my many bikestuffsandsuch, least through winter. PM if you're interested. (Or anyone else in NYC for that matter. Artists and musicians and antiques collectors do it, why shouldn't we?)

the blue dale is the most common of the lot, I've never even heard off the other two makes.... nice though.

how about this, sell all the aluminum bikes and get 2(two) bikes. Whatever one your getting and a nice custom bike (independent fab, rivendell).

I have a soft spot for the 'dale with the fenders though. I had a maroon one that functioned like a workhorse.

seriously though, get rid of the black vitus. There's nothing more depreciating than aging aluminum bikes from the late 80s/90s. They'll break eventually.

i would say to sell the battaglin, but it looks too small for me.

My brother in law is a Porsche freak. It used to really annoy my sister in law. He always had at least 2 or 3 lying around in various states of Upgrading & performance mods. When he wasn't working on them, he was driving them. When he wasn't doing that, he was racing them, buying, selling or trying to figure ways to make them go faster them. He really had it bad. He purchased each of his teenage sons used 944's.

About 10 years ago, my sister in law realized that a majority of their social & business peers were getting divorced; the husband was having an affair, or similar typical self destructive mid life stuff. One Friday evening she looked out in the garage to see her husband with both sons & about 4 or 5 or their buddies tinkering on the Porsches. All were getting ready to go to the track the next morning.

She later confided in my wife that she really did have it pretty good. I haven't heard her complain about her husband's cars (he has now expanded to more than Porsches) for the last decade.

Your mission, should you accept, is to make your wife realize that she has it pretty good. You will only have 6 bikes. Anything under a dozen is note worth worring about.

We are poorly suited to choose a specific bike for the reason that we aren't you. But, since you asked, if I were in your situation...

I would sell the first bike on gut feel. Don't worry about how much money I get for it, sell the one I don't want. This could be because I don't ride it as much, and there is relatively little to distinguish it from other bike(s) in my posession If I sell my favorite because I would get the most money, then I will never get enough, even if I get more than fair market price.

I would then sit with a list of the remaining bikes (or the bikes in front of me), and determine what I use each for. I would figure out which one could be eliminated by increasing the usage of the others without diminishing my experience very much.

Now that this is done, I would also sell the second one as a way to continue giving the wife my priority. This would free up space, not diminish my ability to enjoy cycling and make the wife very happy.

Oh, and the last step... Spend my money and effort I would have spent on maintaining another bike in my stable by splitting it between the wife and the remaining bikes.

The inequality is simple... 5 bikes and a tolerant wife < a select 4 bikes and a happy wife.

Quality, not quantity.

Of course, I won't have a quality bike myself until at least next year.

I stopped making my wife come along with when I pick them up... We used to make a fun road trip out of buying them. After 3 dozen, she lost interest.

That's no fun at all... As would be with the girlfriends (I really am faithful to my wife), I want to keep them all... if not to ride, then just to admire for their beauty and charm

I say only get rid of the ones you don't like. I always kick myself for parting with the cool ones I should have kept. Maybe just find another place for a couple... Keep one at the summer house or cabin, or one at the parent's for when you're on a visit. (I won't suggest one at your girlfriend's...)
