I rescued this frame with forks and some not particularly nice components recently. I've done a bit of web research and know that frames with the Eddy Merckx name were made by a variety of builders. I'm pretty much stumped as to what this is though and this board seems to be the font of this type of knowledge so if anyone can help it'd be appreciated...
The paint's metallic green, it has a photo of Merckx on the headtube and Tour de France and Giro d'Italia stickers on the seatube. There are no braze-ons for cables but there are mudgaurd eyelets on the frame and forks. The forks have a flat crown, not the sloping one I've seen elsewhere.
Cheers!

I may be mistaken and I'm sure the real experts will chime in in awhile but I think for a period during the bike boom a number of lowend bikes were made using the names of some of the greats. This appears to be one of those. The dropouts in the pics appear to be stamped which is an indicator of low quality. Also the fact that it came with not so great components is another indicator as I dont think there were ever any real low end merckxs produced by the the more famous merckx bikes. However I'm not an expert and could be totally wrong.

Sounds reasonable to me, some of the finishing is a little rough. Not too upset, it's going to be stripped, powdercoated and rebuilt as fixed runaround. The lugs are quite nice though annd seem to match other E.M.'s

What type of threading? Italian (doubtful) English (LH threading on fixed bb cup) or French? Looks like a licensed Merckx brand frame from the 70's, pre Eddy's own shop. Seat stay caps look odd though. As stated prevoiusly ends look stamped, ther were bikes made on the Continent and GB with the Merckx labeling. This looks like a low end one.

Looks like a perfect candidate for what you have in store for it.

I am pretty sure that this is a frame built under Eddy's name by Falcon in England.
