Oooooh La La.
My size, too. Very, Very nice bike. |
1987 LeMans RS
Serial Number N7G6997 Shimano Light Action derailers & shifters Shimano SLR calipers and levers Bought this from my LBS around the beginning of May. The old Vetta seat and MKS pedals were trashed so I swapped the pictured ones on when I got it home. Since this was taken I've added some proper 53/39 round chainrings, a black B-17, black bar tape, and a set of black Vredestein Fortezza SE's. I love this thing. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3367/...f15e68d2_o.jpg |
Cool color. I just realized after riding with the local group today that nearly every other bike was the same color - black with a touch of red, white.
Another reason to get cool old 80's frames! |
Very nice RS. A quality ride for the ages.

I have the same bike (same size and color too). Mine has newer wheels, rear der, saddle and aero brake levers. Rode it to work today. It is a perfect commuter and tourer. Yours appears completely original.
Very nice find. |
I really wanted to repaint it when I first bought it, but the paint is actually in very good condition. I decided to hold off and ride it for a while and I think it's grown on me enough to keep it the way it is. I just really want to paint a bike, though. I think I might just swipe a Varsity or something from my school's bike co-op and make a fun art bike out of it. Maybe even do a mural on a disc insert for the rear wheel :)

Centurion Accordo RS
I picked this at a thrift store today for $15. It's in really good shape but it was pretty grimy. It was made with Tange Infinity Tapered Double Butted tubing and a Tange Hi-ten fork. The derailleurs are Shimano Light Action with friction-only shifting. The serial # is N6D2079. Can anyone tell me the year? I cleaned it up and took it for a ride. For having a 52 cm seat tube, it has a really long top tube at 56 cm. I felt really stretched out.

Nice bike, a theft indeed at $15.

Thanks for the info Winthrop. I thought it was either an 85 or 86. The shifter is friction only. I inspected it, as I would rather have index. If I switched out the shifter with an indexed Shimano Light Action shifter, do you think the rear derailleur would shift correctly in index mode? I was curious about the Tange Infinity too, I guess it's not high-end, but it looks and rides nice, so that's good enough for me.

Actually, I'd suggest you buy a new freewheel through your LBS. MF series freewheels for 6 speed are still available and they only cost $7.50. 7 speed is $8.50. That's going to be cheaper than any Ebay purchase once you factor in shipping, plus you know it's new and have a warranty.
However, while you're at it, you might just as well pay the extra $5.00 and get a Hyperglide compatible freewheel. They have profiled teeth that allow you to shift under heavy load. Of course, you'll need a Hyperglide compatible chain, but if you're replacing the freewheel , you should replace the chain too. Personally, given how cheap HG freewheels are, I'm suprised that anybody would even consider riding an older style, unless they're fanatics about having their bicycles 100% original. |
Even better, when I went back into the shop yesterday, I checked the current MF 6 speed freewheels that I have in stock and they all have the Hyperglide ramps. At $7.50 you can't go wrong on a deal like that.

ironman master
I am new to this, have never posted anywhere so I hope this is ok. I really like this thread. It is very informative. I bought my Ironman master at a swap meet in San Diego for $20.00. (It was cool because I had originally bought this excact same model 20 yrs ago brand new in upstate New York. Unfortunately i had to sell my original one yrs ago.) It came with all the original parts except for Dave Scott Tri handlebars. I have rebuilt most of the bike with a 9spd drivetrain. I thought of repainting the frame, but instead I just touched up the scratches a nicks and kept the paint white/smoke purple. I think it looks cool with the newer parts. I have just gotten back into riding after 15yrs off. I love riding this bike. It is stable and comfortable and a joy to ride. I have ridden a friends '04 Trek 5500 and it rides very comparable to it. I will post pics once I figure out how to!

Great Comp TA in immaculate condition. 53cm, eChaos #230357402973 It's not mine, but those who lurk here could pick up a pretty nice bike. In Kansas.
FYI, I switched mine to 700c w/no problems at all, put a 9-sp rear wheel in it and used all the same components, just switched the shifters to friction. |
I just picked up what may be my first vintage find in my size. A Super LeMans in I guess what would be a champaign color. Serial number is on the lower seat tube NB81419. It has a purple Centurion decal on the both sides of the top tube, purple Super LeMans decals on both lower stays, and a purple fade to blue decal on the upper seat tube. Tange high-ten double butted tubing. The head badge is missing, but the holes are there. The fork has chrome lugs and is chrome about half way up from the tange drop outs under the paint. I only got the frame, fork, headset, and a Sakea bottom bracket. The colors suggest 80's, but the s/n doesn't fit. The lugs on the frame are similar to the to the 70's models in this thread. It looks nothing like the 87 Sport dlx that I own.
