Here is a new addition to the family. Picked up for a song in rough condition off of CL. Rattle can paint with numerous scratches and scrapes. Mix and match components. ID'd as a Centurion here by the S/N N6E5180 and confirmed by Robbie when he spied it at the powdercoater (thank you for the referral as well).

As found:

After some TLC:

Michael (powdercoater) was nervous about the color as his vendor was out of the color I chose. What he did not knowm is the color I chose was darker than I wanted. So the color came out perfect. Robin's egg blue for Robin.....

Build is Shimano 600 Tricolor front/rear derailleur, hubs and brakes, Dura Ace crankset and headset, Mavic MA40 hoops with 700cx28 Pasela's, Cinelli stem and Sakae bars, Sugino post and Selle Italia Flite seat.

This weekend we will go to Blowing Rock to ride the back roads and do some leaf peeping.

I don't have much doubt that's the Lemans RS or an Elite RS. I hefted that frame at the coater's, and it's gotta be Tange 2. The lugged crown fork is a nice touch. That is a nice, responsive, balanced frame, and you've probably got it close to 21lbs at the most. With 700x28's, it's a glider.

What a super save. Just super.

MAN your good! Could have sworn I read just yesterday that the weight difference between Tange 1 and 2 in a 56 cm CenturiOn frame was at best 2 oz. I'm still working on sensing with my finger squeeze the difference between 110 and 115 psi.

Tall? I'm only 6'2", but that'd fit. I'd have to replace the crankarms w/175s, and new tires and tubes and brake pads, but still...got something in the works, though.

Don't have to be good, just read the SN and get the age (86-87).

1-it wasn't an Ironman (Tange 1) because it had a lugged fork.

2-It wasn't a Prestige, because the fork wasn't chromed, nor were the seat stay caps.

3-The lower end models in those years were significantly heavier; this was really light, but it wasn't an Ironman.

4-I've had so many Centurion frames run through my hands, including this same frame in about 3 sizes, I can tell. It's either an Elite RS or a Lemans RS. More of the process of elimination than anything to do with being good.

When he first handed me the frame, I thought it was an Ironman frame or a Panasonic DX 4000-6000. It was light, had the lugwork and dropouts, etc that I've seen a thousand times. Then, when he handed me the fork, I ruled out those and knew the time frame from the SN. Then, he told me it was someone I'd referred. I forgot the OP and figured it was a local friend. I wasn't aware he had a frame that small, but I knew he trolled around for Centurions. I made the logical guess before I knew it was the OP's bike.

2 or 3 folks here on BF bought one, if I remember.
I'd love to have one, don't have the $450 for a wall-hangar that I'd need a ladder for.

So, a Lemans RS (1986) will carry 700x28's? I tried 32's on mine (paselas) and they wouldn't fit under the brakes. I would like to run something wider that the 25's now on it, using it on training rides and the local rails to trails.

I just moumted some to a 1987 Lemans RS last weekend. We tried 32's, they wouldn't fit.
Not my bike, and it was specifically for a Rails to Trails ride. Forte tires.

I'd like to add to the Centurion database.

Serial # N6D6997

Lemans RS

Frame is a 67 cm and that is the main reason for buying. I finally have a bike that fits right!

The 28's on the LeMans/Elite are very tight at the brakes. That being said the girl is quite happy with the ride and is flying back in two weeks for another go, since I won't ship it to CA.....

I rode the Austin Livestrong Challenge last Sunday, and saw an Ironman with a paint job I hadn't seen before...yellow head tube and seat tube, and black down tube and top tube. The yellow was the same as on the '87 Experts.

Actually, that one's mine. Built it for the daughter of a customer, turned out it was "too big and she just couldn't get it adjusted right", so I bought it back and she got a new Trek WSD with which she is apparently very happy. So it goes.

It's pretty much all new Shimano 105 10 speed, awesome smooth bike...
