I guess I will have to go and look, while scoping out retro looking hot wheels cars for my kids.
I'll check it out at our new Super WalyWord this weekend. And now I know where all the good Hot Wheels are going! Try to leave a few good ones behind, huh?

O/T: If you want nice Hot Wheels, stick with the original "redline" models from '68-72! I have about 15 of them, and they're the only HWs I particularly have any attachment to anymore.

Mind you, this is coming from someone who has about 400 various carded Hot Wheels from the late '90s, including complete, carded '98, '99 and '00 First Edtitions with just about every variant, and 10 or so Treasure Hunt Editions. Yet, none of these (not even the Treasure Hunts) can match the classic redlines, in my opinion.

Take care,

-Kurt

I agree...
I was a member of the Hot Whells club as a kid. Had the chrome "Boss Hoss" Mustang special edition (it is gone now). I do still have a few redlines laying around and some old original track. My "kid brother" collects it pretty seriously - why he even swears the Boss Hoss in his collection couldn't be mine! I still have the Ford J-car and a Chaparrell.

(Sorry - we are off topic... It's been raining all day.)

What's funny is my friend has a Rivendell Romulus and would ride it to the local K-mart and didn't even bother locking it. Nobody checked it out or even payed attention to it. I guess they thought it was just an old '70s beater or something.

Chrome Boss Hoss from the Club Kit eh? That's worth a Campy derailer or two these days. The whole Club Kit in good shape might get you a full gruppo.

Always loved the Chaparrell. Never had a though, but the Chaparrell 2 from the 2000 First Edition series made up somewhat for that. My existing Redlines consist of a pair of Beatnik Bandits (one burgundy, one gold - what a pair!), a Silhouette, a beat-up Sky Show Fleetside, 36 Ford, a Custom VW (love that sunroof!), a restored Jack In The Box, and a few others that I never finished restoring.

Take care,

-Kurt

Bikes: 1972 Schwinn Varsity, 1979 Motobecane Nomade

Interested to see what other types of bikes are hitting the conglomo-marts, I came across this:

https://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=3636434

Could that be more durable than tubes from Summit? I've never seen anything like that before.

Sorry to derail the convo.

I gave up Hot Wheels by about 1970 when i discovered HO slot cars.
FWIT, I still have a Tyco-Pro Chaparrell 2H that kicks butt when I race my nephew.

I'll take it!" Keep in mind, the other choice is something like a Roadmaster "Mt. Fury." It's all about marketing at that level. Sad thing is, the Schwinn name is now just that, a name on a decal, and nothing more. GT's another brand that falls into the same category............I believe both Schwinn and GT actually make some fair bikes these days, at a higher price point than you'll find at X-Mart (maybe at big chains like REI?), but again, what makes even these bikes a "Schwinn" or a "GT" is nothing significant, the name's just on the label-
How is this name badging any different than all the other basic component bikes from the Trek's Fuji's, Cannondale's and Specialized's of the world. Let's face it for the most part at 700 and below everyone is buying a basic frame from China or Taiwan and mixing what parts they can on them. Most all companies including GT have product people that engineer their own frame designs and have them built and assembled abroad. Buy the way Pacific's commitment with GT is back to the LBS and that's where it belongs. They will climb back to some level of respect.
