Early 1960's Raleighs
I have three early 1960's Raleigh’s:
1963 Raleigh Sport - Ladies - in sky blue s/n 50978B (printed on seat post ring) It has a Sturmey-Archer 3-speed hub dated June 1963 and the top of the bottom bracket has a plastic lubrication port.
1961-1963 Raleigh Colt s/n 0178416 (stamped under the bottom bracket), model DL-58 in Burgundy AW 3-speed Sturmey-Archer hub dated May 1956 (not original to the bike) the top of the bottom bracket has a plastic lubrication port. I've had this bike since 1974. It was old when I got it. It came from a barn in Minnesota. The seat only had the frame and springs left, rusted fenders, rusted Northroad handlebars and a S/A TCW hub that was seized up. (Unfortunately I threw out the hub before I knew that the date code would have been on it, I was only 11, didn't know any better)
1964-1969 Raleigh Colt s/n 1112018 (stamped under bottom bracket), there is also a very faint "38" stamped directly under the serial number, model DL-58 in Burgundy, Perry B-100 coaster brake hub marked 40-14. Raleigh stamped front wheel with oil port and metal slide cover. No oil port on bottom bracket. This bike is all original with the exception of the seat (even has original Michelin Zig-Zag tires) I purchased it off the original owner on EBay recently.
I'm really trying to find out more information on dating the two Raleigh Colts. I've already tried using the charts on Oldroads.com and RetroRaleighs.com as far as the serial numbers go and have gotten no where. I have spoken with some very knowledgeable people on Oldroads.com that has given me lots of information. From what I've learned the Raleigh Colt started in 1954 and used the same "Colt" graphic until 1969. The Raleigh logo was a bit different as it was smaller and was outlined in white with gold and red triangles, diamonds and arrows through the middle of it. Apparently older English bikes prior to 1961 had metal oil caps in the top of the bottom bracket and the use of plastic oil caps stopped in 1964. The Raleigh logos used on all three of my Raleigh’s were just from the 60's as far as I know. The 1969 Colt still uses the gold outlined lettering which measures 5 3/4" x 1 5/8" on the chain guard and the downpost. The 1970 Colt has a new logo and it has "Raleigh Colt" printed directly on the chainguard. The new logo is 5 1/4" x 1 7/8". The 1970 model no longer uses the "Colt" graphic on the middle of the seat post. The Raleigh Colt was no longer produced after 1974 after having a 20 year run. I am not an expert on this subject, but I really enjoy these bikes as a hobby. I also own a 2002 special edition Cannondale "Bud Light" mountain bike and a 2005 Schwinn Sidewinder mountain bike.
If anyone out there can help me with more information on 1960 Raleigh’s, I'd really appreciate it very much. I'm also adding the link to photo's of these bikes.

Didn't Raleigh do away with a headlamp mount on the fork in '62 or '63? My '59 Lenton has one, and I have seen them on Sportses as well.
