Methods for restoration
Just wondering how to go about surface rust clean-up. Figured I would sand wool the rims, started on a little spot and seemed to work great. As far as the paint goes, was gonna try Coke and see if I can loosen up some of the rust. Any other methods I should know about? I'm trying to avoid buying that strange stuff they sell on oldroads.com(or whatever it is), theres gotta be another way. TIA.

I like brass wool better than steel wool, seems to abrade/scratch the
rims less.
btw, that strange stuff, it works.

I've had good success with Menotomy Formula. Oldroads.com sells a kit containing that forumla and some bronze wool for rust clean up. Works great on surface rust, especially on chrome.

as long as you can get similar grades of bronze wool, go with that over the steel.
if you happen to get any particles stuck on the frame, the steel will rapidly rust, while the bronze wool won't.

I was using the steel wool for the rims. The next step was the paint.
