I'd like to determine the model range that Ofmega had in the mid/late 80s and, if possible, the equivalent models of Campy or Shimano. I know of the Premier and Mistral lines (but don't know which is better) and that Ofmega made some composite RDs (don't know where those fit, either). Can anyone help?

My Bianchi came with Ofmega CX cranks, which are probably comparable to sub-Record Campags. of the same vintage. I have read that Ofmega may be the old Magistroni company from the 1950s and 1960s.

I have a broken Ofmega Sierra crankset. It's MTB and it's made in the very late 80's. It's next to worthless so i would rank ik Altus

I just got a crankset from the 80's called "Super Competizione", that was probably labeled as "Super Competition" in the states. These cranks came from Germany, and all writing was in Italian.

I would also like to know the hierarchy of the groups. I have heard of "Mistral" and "CX".

I forgot that there's a Master group. So there's Master, Mistral, Premier, Super Competizione, CX; and for MTB use, Sierra.

Ofmega made a RD in composite (nylon, I think) and I don't know where that fits in the lineup, or if it's part of a yet different group.

What else do we know about Ofmega?

In a topic some weeks ago I read about pedals snapping out of the crank. I had the same problem. Perhaps a general weak spot in Ofmega cranks? With a snap my Shimano SPD pedal hung under my feet completely intact and the threading of the crank totally was ruined.

At the same time as starting this thread I wrote to the company asking for their help. When I've asked questions of other companies they've frequently ignored me, so I thought I'd ask the forum as well.

You're right that some of the cranksets on the site look both delicious and nutritious. I can't comment on your experience with the Sierra crank, but my Premier groupset is still going strong after 20 years of service, the only exceptions being a headset that wore out and worn friction washers on the shift levers.

On the site, the Mistral crank looks to be the top of the line, so I'm wondering if that was true of the 80s Mistral as well.

As i can't use all of them , i am selling some .
i' ve got cranks of all types ; cx , mistral , derailleurs ( in french), many moyeux ( french again)
As well i have new clement tubulars in good state .

I stripped a Bianchi with all mistral stuff the cranks say bianchi. Would they be minstral to. Look alot like SR campy and very light

I can't add much, but here's what I got:

Ofmega Mistral cranks are really nice, and IMO better than the Campy's of the same era (mine is '84), certainly nicer looking, and lighter.
Ofmega (Mistral?) made the BB in my '84, and it's lighter than the same era Campy, looks about the same.
Ofmega Mistral is the headset on the same Italian bike, and it's lighter than the Campy, but the "softer" alloy won't polish like a Campy.
Ofmega Mistral did make an RD, and it's just as pretty as the crankset. I've simply not seen the other components.

Some of their stuff is pretty light, and one BF member here collects them in colors (orange and pink) and I think kpug505 has found some of them to be close to weight weenie usable.

The Ofmega Sintesi pedals (clips) are top-notch, repackable, and were also marketed by Avocet. Mine are composite, with chromed spindles and chromed Christophe clips. As far as I know, the clips for these only fit the Ofmega, the Avocet, and one Campy model, come in black and chrome. I bought the pedals from France, and they are as light and smooth as any clip pedal I've had.

My 1998 Bianchi Trofeo had triple Campy, but an Ofmega Super Competizione crankset, which looks pretty modern.

Would I love to have a complete Ofmega group?

The composite rear derailleur (and shift levers) were part of the "Mistral" group. And yes, Ofmega is the successor to the old "Magistroni" company.

Ofmega made many of the components marketed in North America under the "Avocet" brand, including hubs, headsets, cranks, and pedals.

IIRC, the Bianchi cranks were rebadged "Competitione" cranks. The "Mistral" cranks are quite distictive:

I was looking through my parts box, and found a set of Ofmega DT shifters, friction. Appears direct competitors to the Nuovo Record, but in black and smooth on the edges. Printed Bianchi on one side, engraved Ofmega on the other.

I've seen only two cranksets, an '84 Mistral and the one on a 1998 Bianchi Trofeo. The Mistral was a lot nicer looking.

A BF member I know has a NOS set of Ofmega hubs I may go after someday.

I don't have this bike anymore, but it had an Ofmega crankset, hubs and BB. It's about an 1986 or so Brava.

Purchased sometime early in 1983.

Those appear to be it. The composite was later used as grips for pistols. . The dust caps have a little hex key set screw that comes out, and you can actually force lube in that way if you want. The caps are press-fit in, so a thin wedge (I used a set of automotive points gappers) can pry it out, and you can clean and repack the bearings, then put it back on.

The first set I had came with black spindles, black cages, by Christophe. My second set, from eBay France, had chro-mo spindles and chrome Christophe cages. I still have them, never thought much about them until this thread came up. I also have a spare dust cap.

They are no beauty queen pedal like the 600 tricolor cage pedal, or others, but they're light, spin smoothly, are rebuildable, and I like the cage. If I could figure out a way to make some Christophe mini-clips work, I'd use them on my commuter.

The little set screw in the middle of the cap will actually push the cap off the pedal for you if you screw it in far enough (the end of the screw bears against the end of the pedal spindle). Just remember to back it out again before you try to replace the caps.

I have a set of those as well. Avocet also sold them as their top-of-the-line "Model III" pedal.
