any info on SUPERIA PATRICK SERCU ?

Does anyone have any info on a vintage lightweight belgian bicycle by Superia, model "Patrick Sercu" ?
I found the bike in an ad, it does look interesting, but i cannot seem to find any useful information about it, in fact, i cannot find any mention of a "patrick sercu" model at all.
The bike has first generation shimano 600 derailleurs (ornate, no index), and appears to have matching cranks, possibly brakes too (at least they are sidepull brakes, could be weinmann..).
The bike is supposed to be in its original state, and by the looks of it that would be my guess too.
Unfortuneatly i cannot reach the seller, and i do not dare to post the picture without asking.
I know who Patrick Sercu is, and i know Eddy merckx rode Superia bikes in the beginning,
but thats about it...

Yes it doesnīt cost much, should i pick it up or will i just be dissapointed ?

Bikes: Crap. The box is not big enough...

Patrick Sercu was born on 27 June 1944 in Roeselare, Belgium. He began his career as a great track sprinter, winning the world amateur title in 1963, the Olympic Gold for the kilometre time trial in 1964 and the world pro sprint 1967 and 1969, with second places in 1965 and 1968. He set indoor world records for 1 kilometre with a flying start of 1 minute 1.23 seconds in 1967 and with a standing start of 1 minute 7.35 seconds in 1972, and an outdoor kilometre record of 1 minute 2.46 seconds in 1973.

Later in his career he finished the Tour de France twice and was points winner in 1974. But he will be remembered as one of the greatest six-day racers ever, as from 1964 to 1983 he won a record 88 of 233 such races contested with several different partners. He coached the Belgian Olympic team in 1984. His father Albert won the "Het Volk" and was second in the world professional road race in 1947.

Superia, like Sercu, was (IS?) a Belgian bicycle manufacturer. Both Sercu and another famous Belgian, Eddy Merckx, raced for Superia at some point in their career. I think that Eddy had a model as well, and it wasn't particularly stunning. This soulds like a nicer model, as 600EX was an expensive gruppo in the 80's. Put us up some pictures and we can tell you more.

Bikes: 1967 Paramount; 1982-ish Ron Cooper; 1978 Eisentraut "A"; two mid-1960s Cinelli Speciale Corsas; and others in various stages of non-rideability.

Superia and Flandria shared a building in Belgium - for years they were on opposite sides of a common wall. Superia supplied the bikes (or at least the sponsorship) for the Solo team, the mid-60's version of Rik van Looy's "Red Guard." Solo was Merckx's first pro team (1965, I believe) and he had a miserable year because van Looy and his faithful lieutenants were pretty merciless in ragging on the highly touted newbie. (Van Looy was not exactly the sort to encourage an up-and-coming challenger - from what I can gather, Greg Lemond and Bernard Hinault are bossom buddies compared to Merckx and van Looy.)

I don't think I have ever seen or heard of a Superia in the US. In fact, outside of photos of van Looy or his team, I don't think I've ever seen so much as a photo of one. I have seen photos of a few Flandrias in the US, though, and those were 1970's "bike boom" specials: Peugeot UO-8 quality or lower. Shimano 600 gear is definitely higher zoot than that, which leads me to guess (as you have) that the frame is higher zoot than a UO-8, too. On the other hand, Belgian bike manufacturers seem to have missed out on the US market for the good stuff pretty consistently, with the exception of Eddy Merckx frames. (At least I have managed never to see much of it, in person or in ads or photos.) Is there any chance you can find out anything more about the frame (like what it is made from, how old it is, where it was originally purchased) before committing? If not, I personally wouldn't pay more than "shrug money" for it - an amount you can lose without feeling badly about it. But that advice and a buck fifty will get you a bad cup of coffee.

The 600EX gruppo that is on the bike originates in the late '70s through about 1984, I think. There are date codes - two-letter codes - on the parts, like on the back of the cranks. Skip at vintage-trek.com has spent some effort decoding the letters, so you can find out about what year your bike was made (parts year + one, usually). It looks like a nice bike...what is the sticker under the top tube on the seat tube? That'll tell you what the frame is made of, probably.
