Will Campy NR work with 8 speed.

I have a old Nuevo Record pat. 81 RD I want to use with a eight speed wheel. Is the throw long enough to cover that spread? I will be using 13- 21 and a 13- 24 freewheel.

I think it will work, but if it doesn't, strongly consider applying Sheldon Brown's technique of using the narrower 9-speed spacers to build an 8-speed that is only marginally wider than a 7-speed, which the NR handles easily. (I have a 7-speed SRAM freewheel and a 1980 NR rear derailleur on my Bianchi.)

Thanks John. I am working with Sachs eightspeed freewheels on a Mavic hubset so nine speed cassette parts won't work. This is all going on a Raliegh Carlton along with a NR crank. If the NR wont cover the spread I will probably redish back to a seven speed freewheel I already have. Probably a better choice anyways as I will not have to bend the rear stays so far on the Carlton when I cold set.

Thanks Don, that sounds great and a lot less work than redishing and changing out the 130 mm axle. I just hope the Carlton will take a 10 MM spread.
