Witcomb Touring Frame

Just picked this beauty up off 'bay and was curious if anyone knew when it was made? Looks like it will be a fun project to build up. Any suggestions on what components, etc. to use that will be era specific for this frame? I know a Brooks saddle will be a given, but what else? Thanks!

Bikes: 1 trek, serotta, rih, de Reus, Pogliaghi and finally a Zieleman! and got a DeRosa

hmm, didn't e-RICHIE work at wittcomb? or was that Doug Fattic or Ben Serotta
I can never keep those straight.
top tube braze ons so I'm going to go out on a limb and say mid to late 70's
earliest.
after that, I haven't got a clue.
Nice bike btw.

Richard Sachs and Ben Serotta both cut their teeth at Witcomb (I do believe)

I should also mention that the current owner said the frame has been restored and thinks the top tube braze ons were added then...

I was actually going to ask about that frame the other day, and now I'm glad I didn't... wouldn't want to bid against a BFN poster.

I am interested to see what you do with it.

Keep us posted, it should build up nicely!

Thanks. It took everthing in me not to ask about the frame here before the auction ended, but I wanted to keep in on the down low. I honestly didn't think my bid was high enough to win.

Beautiful frame!
I know building it with vintage Campy would cost a lot but be splendid. What about old DuraAce components? They were quite nice, but I don't know about prices.
Please post more pics when you are done.
Best wishes!

Braze ons were used on top tubes all the way into the early nineties...I'm guessing it's late 80s...what kind of BB does it have?

I got the frame today. Wow! It is so much nicer than I imagined in person. Has a few paint chips, but nothing major. Does anyone know how to decode Witcomb serial numbers?
