Gregg,

There are date codes on Sugino and SunTour components which should narrow down the manufacture date of your frame to within a year or two if they are original to the bike. Go to www.vintage-trek.com and look for the appropriate selection on the left side of the page.

Of course, if T-Mar reads this, he will probably be able to tell you what year your bike was made withing 1-2 years, just based on his knowledge of the model and what is on it.

The component codes are the samee regardless of which manufacturer used them.

Look for date codes for Suntour components, and it will tell you where to find the codes, and what they mean.

If i have the serial numbers is there anyway to use them. That site gave me mixed information or i didn't understand it. Dia-compe looks like it's 1980. In side sugino crank is J12.Maybe if i knew what years the Suntour sprint seven derailuers where used.

Thanks again,
Gregg

Aren't you able to find the date code on the derailleurs?

https://vintage-trek.com/component_dates.htm#suntour

After a quick google search, Suntour Seven is listed from 1976 to 1987 on this page:

https://www.firstflightbikes.com/suntour.htm

I don't think that brakes tend to be stock-piled by bicycle manufacturers for multiple years, so the fact that your Dia-Compes are 1980, tells me your bike is probably a 1980 or 1981... Leaning toward 1981 unless your date codes indicate early in the year.
