Hello, could somebody tell me about the required inserts for Campagnolo's Syncros 2 levers?

I bought a set of Syncros 2 levers that have a 6 speed insert, however I'm looking to upgrade this to a 7 speed (or 8sp if possible) system. I plan to use a Campy Freewheel.

A Fellow BF member has offered to obtain the require insert for me, but I know nothing about what I need or which color would be the right one.

Is there a chart/table available that may show what the various options, compatibility of these inserts in respect to the color?

After a tough search on the net, it is unconfirmed:

6 Speed Campagnolo/Regina Freewheel = Yellow

7 Speed Campagnolo/Regina Freewheel = Blue

If you know that yours is for a 6 speed, all yopu need to do is check out the number of notches to figure out the 7 and 8 speed ones. Then you need to find the right colour one with the correct notches for your freewheel.

As I type this I'm looking at 7 different inserts. Three are for 7-speed and 4 are for 6-speed.

When Syncro I was introduced, the inserts were color coded black, red, white, yellow, and blue/green. Each color corresponded to a certain derailleur/freewheel/chain combination.

Things got a bit more simplified(yeah, whatever!) with Syncro II. Each insert was stamped with a letter and a number, of which there were 3 types each for 6 and 7 speed combinations. [Edit: they were also color coded]

Six-speed:
Record,Super Record,Victory/Triomphe, and Croce D'Aune all used a 6V(yellow?)insert.
Chorus used either an A6(red) or B6(white) insert. I don't know the differentiation for these two

Seven-speed:
Record,Super Record,Victory/Triomphe, and Croce D'Aune all used a 7V(color?).
Chorus used either an A7(green) or B7(black), differentiation unknown.

For a while I used the B7 in combo with a Chorus derailleur/Regina America 7 freewheel/SRAM PC68 chain.
Shifting was satisfactory at best. Then I switched out the Syncro for some plain old C-Record friction shifters and was more than pleased. Sometimes simpler is just better.

If that was the case I would just put 05 Record Shifter/Brake levers on this bike, but there is something about having the much malinged Campy Syncros system that sort of functions for me It's about having the period with it's good and bad.

Are you saying that Syncro 2 levers are NOT color coded?

One of my LBS has Syncro inserts, but they're all painted in a solid color.

Syncro I and II were both color coded.

I just re-read your post - understand now: Chorus requires a unique insert.
