I may be the numbskull on this one. I've heard of Schwinn Tourist, and World Tourist. But I never heard of a Schwinn Grand Tourister, and my quick search of Schwinnbike.com and BF does not find this model name. Has anyone else heard of this bike?

A crappy big-box CCM hybrid becomes an "imported" bicycle.

Sorry, obscure joke that I'm guessing only BD will get. Obscure, and not very funny. Based on his signature.

The joke and BD's signature are portions of lyrics from a Tom Waits song, "The Ghosts of Saturday Night". Lyrics here: https://www.tomwaitslibrary.com/lyrics-by-songs.html Live recording here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RuEOUIoN9I

Yes, I am a musician. Not a good one, but I can still claim the name.

Crumbling beauty, is from "Ninth and Hennepin". A spoken word type song from Rain Dogs....

This is a pretty numbskull build and price, but you guys are making yourselves look worse than the owner. The ad says Technium not titanium, it's the model of the bike, not the material. It is, in fact, a bonded aluminum and steel frame. There's also absolutely nothing to indicate that it's stolen. Since he put a centerpull on a bike designed for sidepull brakes the long cable is probably actually a smoother routing from the stop to the hanger than a direct run, it also looks as if it might pass through the seat rail for some incidental theft protection.

If you want to mock the added front brake hanger for cable routing, the over-extended french stem, the rear brake on a single speed for some sweet fake-fixie skid stops, his spelling, the apparent absence of a lever to actuate said brake, or the general tarck-ness of the bike you'd be justified. However so far what you've said just indicates that you know less about bikes than the guy selling it.

For some reason, I would not necessarily call those modifications "desirable." Effective, yes, but desirable in the seller's own mind.

Numbskull of the year goes to the buyer of....

Rudge (Raleigh) special single speed cruiser, way cool. - $150 (West Village)

Reply to: [?]
Date: 2009-01-18, 4:35PM EST

Rudge made fine bikes and were a flagship brand of Raleigh, Sheldon has more info. This bike seems to have been used a bit over the years and altered somewhat but the quality is definitely there to outlive several of its owners!

It was a little unhappy when we found it hidden in an suburban barn so we put new spiffy tires on it. The chain has been oiled and everything tightened up and adjusted. It comes with the crazy chopper bars that give a really comfy riding position. The basket on the front can be for your gear or whatever you happen to find on your travels. The seat is a classic old comfortable sprung model.

Ready to ride home now. More fun than should be legally allowed.

For some more classic stylish bikes I have on CL

$145 Raleigh DL-1 Tourist? Seems like a great deal...

https://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/bik/997750824.html

...but I don't care how lax the fork rake is on a DL-1 - that's bent. Forward.

"Equity" on a motorcycle? So if it's worth $25k, and you only pay $17k for it, then um...
