Man, there are some great catches here lately. Envious of your sources. That pair of Merkx...woohoo!
Seems all the biking I've been doing lately is parts shopping, with all my bikes disassembled and boxed.
Yesterday, I picked up a set of old wheels someone was selling on CL.
Campy NR 6spd hubset laced to Ambrosio Synthesis Durex sew up rims. 2 used sew-ups, and 2 new Vittoria sew-ups. The rim anodizing was a bit worn on the rear, but the hubs were smooth and they were true. Also a Regina CX freewheel was still on the hub. I have no means to remove it to see if I can clean it and get it smooth...it's quite gritty.
Anyone know if a compatible Regina CX freewheel remover tool still exists?

Oh, and I was given an extra front Record hub w/o the skewer.

$40 I guess isn't bad for some cheap C&V thrills.

That Kestrel 200 is a pretty bird!
Thanks WNG, This bird sure does fly also. I'm comparing it to my LeTour and Nishiki and it feels like wind underneath me. It is going to get the best of me the way it is geared right now- front 53/40 and rear 12/23 8 speed, but man does that 600 group shift nice...

I bought a lime green 1970's Schwinn Suburban ladies 10-speed today from the local Salvation Army store. It was marked $49.99 but a 25% discount (for seniors, of all things) was applied. With tax, it was $40 and change. It has a Schwinn-approved rear rack and a non-Schwinn speedometer, plus a very-out-of-place thick white Troxel saddle.

Plus, I am fairly certain I am picking up a '70's or '80's Peugeot tomorrow for $15. Photos of both tomorrow or Friday.

Okay, here are photos of the Peugeot: (how do I load just a normal-sized photo or thumbnail here?)

https://i525.photobucket.com/albums/c...tbefore011.jpg
https://i525.photobucket.com/albums/c...tbefore012.jpg

I bought it online on the strength of only a few photos and not much help from the seller at Goodwill. For example, I did not know the model, and could not identify it from the photos. And the seller could not tell me. Also, I somehow neglected to ask specifically if it was a 10-speed -- turns out this is a 5-speed.

However: it is in pretty good shape. Appears to have a coat of dirt on it, with a speck of rust here and there on the rims.

After checking through cyclespeugeot and retropeugeot, I am still not positive I know the year and model. The HLE Mangalloy decal and rainbow stripes place it in the mid-1980's. The serial number from the underside of the BB is Y8C5 21730. But there is another set of numbers on a bit of white paper attached to the left chainstay, which read thus:
P8M5 W IE
6380647 60

It's equipped with Sachs-Huret shifter and RD; Weinmann brakes; Rigida SuperChromix rims; Michelin Select 27 x 1-1/8" tires; Soubitez headlamp/taillamp w/generator; a bottle cage and bottle; and a Cateye MITY2, which I assume is a speedometer.

Did I overspend at $15 plus tax and handling? Total was $16 and change.

I went to the MEC gear swap today and right off the bat scored some vintage Shimano 600 pedals with clips and straps (in the FREE pile!) which will complete the groupo on my '73 Gran Sport and then proceeded to score a new Blackburn handlebar bag for 10.00, and then found a new Nitto Technomic 280 / 80 stem for $6.00.

I mentioned this pick a few days ago, but did not have any images at the time.

Here is a pic of my 'new' Schwinn Super Sport. 1987 vintage. Columbus Tenax tubing, Shimano 600 group, Rigida rims, Cinelli bars and stem. Original saddle, and bar tape. In this pic I have removed the Shimano 600 pedals (which I can't stand) and put on some Candies. Not original, I know, but a lot more useful to me.

There was some rusting on the top-tube, that required some touch-up paint, but other than that, the parts look, and feel, unused.

I think I may have got a decent deal for $50.00 all told.

Bought this at an auction yesterday. Gitane Super Course. Tires are shot but it's in overall very good condition. Am I in the neighborhood with 1973?

Mmmm pink bike.... and pink is a pretty "safe" color -- some police stations paint the interiors of their holding cells pink -- keeps the drunks calm -- they're afraid to touch the pink... hahahaha.

I'm jonesing for a new "catch" -- but I can't complain... because this year I've gotten a $5 Super LeTour, $7 Collegiate, $7 Speedster, $6 Huffy (Huffman) 10 speed, $60 Romic, free Peugeot mixte and a $89 MINTY MINT Lotus mixte.

Picked up a nice set of Stronglight 93 cranks w/ rings (52/45) and a very lightly used Campy NR 42th chainring for $26.

The magenta Super Sport is awesome. I like that green on the Gitane. And thank you all for your positive comments, and no, I am not mocking you all. I'm new at this, and I know I have already overspent on some other bikes. And as for doubling my money on the Peugeot -- honestly, I don't know yet whether I'll keep it or not. It sure fits me well, and I found today that the generator-driven headlamp and taillamp do work. But I think I'd ask more than $30 to start.

I am now up to about fifteen bikes here, including the one each that belong to my wife and kids, plus the Ross in the shop. I do need to unload some bikes.

Serotta Colorado III

Picked up a Serotta Colorado III last night on the Bay. $399 plus shipping. Custom made for my heretofore unknown identical twin and NEVER PICKED UP! Never built up.

https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=330275565948

Can't wait to get it. Unfortunately, my budget doesn't allow for the new dura-ace this bike should have. If anyone sees a donor bike($400 or less) anywhere (Chicago area would be best), please let me know. I need everything but frame, fork and headset. Trashed frame would be ok.

Thanks for your help.

Mike
