One more variation of the same thing: Waller's Kingsland frame. The claims behind the design were that it "offered the advantages of a short wheelbase without the usual boneshaker action that is ussually experienced with orthodox close-couple machines" (July '06 issue of C+ magazine). According to the photo, things were actually very different.

Bikes: Raleigh, Rudge, James 3spds., and a cast of many

That the forward triangle is bisected and the rear triangle made of thinner tubes may have tended to isolate jarring from rough roads to the front half, while giving a small amount of compliance to the rear half.
The abbreviated seat tube may have helped as well, being mounted to skinny tubes and too short to transfer shocks from the main tubes. Less likelihood of pesky harmonics...other than the kind that you get from overdoing the bangers and mash, at any rate...

I've actually seen a Dursley Pederson in the metal, on the road, in central London. I was on the way out of Victoria Station, waiting for the pedestrian crossing, the lights changed in my favour, and a chap on a DP pulled up. I didn't cross, but instead took advantage of the opportunity for a quick chat. Nice bloke, nice bike. Of course, if mice were to eat through the ropes that suspend that saddle.....

I never manage to keep up with the digest (always too much talk about Italian bikes that don't really float my boat), but if they're doing Flying Gates I might just take a peek.....

Not much on the flying Gates. If you can't keep up with digest read
it in archives here: https://search.bikelist.org/ gives you the option
to read yesterday, last week, etc.
