I read here somewhere that you can remove decals with acetone. Does this destroy the decal? If not, how do you store the decal until needed again, and what (glue?) do you use to apply it with? Thanks for any other tips you may have.

That would destory them---decals are a one use part--no resue,that's why we need people like Mike of Velography or Nick of Lloyds.

Don't use acetone anywhere near your bike, it will propably eat into the finish. True decals are not removable. But stickers, vinyl or foil will come off with the careful use of a heat-gun or hair dryer. Then can be remounted with photo-mount spray or contact cement.

What do you mean by True decals? Painted? As long as the decal wasn't clear coated it should be removable with a heat gun.

Yes, water-slide or those rub-on varnish over type. Where the substrate is not solid enough to remove. A "sticker" being a heavier substrate (vinyl, etc) with adhesive that will stay intact, even if the adhesive is softened or removed.

I plan to try to remove the headbadge sticker when I have my Peugeot painted and then have the painter reapply it. It's a foil sticker and I think I can remove it by applying heat from a hair dryer. I have the new decals for the rest of the bike.


My Chevy truck was plastered with vinyl graphics at the factory. I took them off with a hair dryer as soon as I got it home.
