Restoring a Gitane

Hey everyone,

I bought an old Gitane Victoire the other day and I'm restoring it for my girlfriend. She likes french stuff. The original paint and decals were wrecked, so I painted it blue. Putting the final coat and a clear coat on tomorrow. Check it out:

Nice!

I think you should get rid of the plastic portion of the spoke protector though.

I though that was what it was - that's why I asked. I didn't think many Americans listened to the Mondays!

You just brought up a British band that I've never heard of - and given my following of the Brit rock scene (I never read Rolling Stone, had a subscription to NME), that shows how little they penetrated the states.

They were, with The Stone Roses, the absolute cream of the crop in the late 80's early 90's as well. I don't think Baggy really got to the states though. Shame really, since the first Stone Roses album is an all time great.

See the movie "24 Hour Party People" for a nice look at the Happy Monday's scene.

I like that "student crossing" sign in the background with the figure on all fours spilling a beer. Hilarious!

Yes, I'm a college student. Those days are over soon as I'm a senior. I have six years active duty Army following my comission, though. Yay Army Aviation.

You titled this thread "Restoring a Gitane'. I don't think "restore' means what you think it means. You most certainly are not restoring this bike.

But yes, nice bike. Lose the dork disc and all those extra cogs/chainrings. DO IT.
