Cannondale Black Lightning HELP please

I have recently picked up a 1987 Black Lightning with Sun Tour Edge Parts. The rear cog is a Shimano and seems to worn out. What would be a compatable replacement for this cog and chain ? The wheels seem to be orginals but this cog must not be. Does it have to be older era stuff or will something new fit? Any ideas Thanks, BOB

8 months later . . .

Edge is a 6-7 speed Accushift (indexed) derailleur.

You can use it non-indexed, of course. Just about any 2-notch Suntour free wheel will work like a champ. If you want to use it indexed, you will need 6-7 speed Accushift shifters, any 4-notched Suntour freewheel, preferably a Suntour AP chain, Accushift rear der cable housing and indexed shift cables, either Accushift or Shimano will work just fine.
