What tubing is this?

One of the bikes offered to me on my ad is a vintage trek in decent shape. I don't recognize this tubing though, since I have not seen many decals of this sort but a precious few. So what brand/type tubing does this decal represent? Or is it even a tubing decal?,,,,BD

Ask for a straight on photo. Maybe Mangaloy? What's the year and model of the bike? Easy enough to figure out with that info by going to vintage-trek.com

EDIT: Or maybe it's a bike license or the sticker for the shop where it was sold!

I don't recognize it but I'll guess Ishiwata.

If that's an older Trek, I'd guess Ishiwata also.

+1...I'm guessing Ishiwata Mangalloy, it's the right shape for the sticker.

So good stuff in other words? The year I don't know? Maybe 81-82? Has the white T R E K on dark blue band on the seat tube, and no model number anywhere. Yellow bands bordering the blue band. Suntour ARX on the RD?,,,,BD

He hasn't named his price yet. He asked me to, and I hate that with a passion. I cannot guess what he's thinking.....

I guarantee that if your offer is too low, he will let you know what he really wants!

My guess is 1982 311

They're all decent bikes. Ask what the sticker says and ask for the serial number on the bottom bracket. Then you can determine exactly what it is using the database on vintage-trek.com

I think the steel hierarchy would go roughly something like Tange Mangaloy, Ishiwata Magny, Reynolds 501, Ishiwata 022, Reynolds 531. If it's full 531, it's better than just 531 in the main tubes.

So, if it's a manganese alloy of some sort, that's their entry level bike, and Suntour ARX components, while very competent mechanically, are also entry level.

So, in excellent condition, I might offer between $50-$75 for a Mangoly frame, maybe $75-$100 for a Reynolds 501 or Ishiwata 022, and maybe $100-$150 for a Reynolds 531 (but probably much more for a full 531 with Campy components).
