Dating a Bottechia Frame
Hey all. I'm helping a friend of mine date a Bottechia frame he has. The serial number is 250515 and it's placed on the seat tube, I'm still trying to get a few more details from him, but I believe it was mostly campy (I know that is sorta' vague).
Another "no duh" factor is that on the underside of the stem it has the following engraved:
Robert M. VanS**** 4-20-72
While that is a good indicator of the era, since it's on the stem, I can't trust that for the exact date of manufacture.
Any ideas?

If it is a higher end bike from the 70's then it should have Campy Nuovo Record components.
A good indicator is the patent number on the Campagnolo Nuovo Record rear derailleur. "PAT 72" would mean 1972, PAT 74 is 1974 and so on....
If the bike has block letter "Bottecchia" decals then it is probably 80's vintage. Cursive script with checkers is earlier. If it has center-pull brakes then it's late 60's-early 70's.
Post a pic and we'll tell ya right away.
