Bikes: Schwinn Letour 1989, Shogun 300 198?

Really Long Stem

Cruising through craigslist and saw this old Schwinn. What an odd stem, do you think this is stock?

By the way, I click on everything on CL that says Schwinn.

NOT!

With the drop bars, it does look kinda "funky"!
My wife's Interclub has that same stem though, holding upright bars.
Very easy to wheely her bike!

Bikes: Many

I like my Nitto Technomig to get the bars up a bit, but that bike is in a different league!

That stem is almost as tall as the fork.

When the title said long stem, I was expecting some 150mm extension or something. I see that stem as tall, not long. (I know it is picky, but it conflicts with what was in my mind before I saw the picture) I was expecting to see the bars out near the leading edge of the wheel.

I've dragged a stem that long out of a Chinese 10-speed. Half expected a Chinaman to be hanging onto the other end.

Not stock. I have no idea what you would use that for.
