The MERLIN so far...
Awhile back fender1 helped me aquire this beautiful Merlin Racing Cycles frame. In my size...AMAZING!
It came with a mishmash of assorted goodies. Some Campy, some not.
Seeing how all my other road steeds have a lot of Campy, I figured the Merlin deserved no less.
Well, that has been fun!
This is what I have so far...
Selle Royale saddle on a Mavic post. The seat came on Mrs. East Hill's mixte. That was the only reason I bought the bike. That, and the guy took $5 for the whole bike!
The Campy NR BB is perfect as are the 175 arms. I dug around and found Super Record rings in 42-53.
Front deraileur is NR and came with the bike.
The rear is going to be a Rally, as soon as I can find one that I can afford.
I pieced together the front Campy caliper from my parts bins. A good friend sold me the rear caliper, so now that's all set.
The wheels are lo flange Campy Record laced to 27" Module E2's. Thanks to that same friend!
All that's left besides the R drlr, is the freewheel & chain. And some proper brake levers for the upwrong bars. Then I'll get a Rock Lobster stem made and it'll be all set!
I did coast it down the block and I love the way it handles. Can't wait 'till I can ride it back to the house!
And Summer's coming!!! YAY!
Thanks fender1 for this great project! Hope y'all enjoy it. Sorry the pics are small, but that's the only way I have for now. (less than 100k)
And a footnote. I got this bike because A) I could afford it at that moment.
B) I needed another bike like I need a hole in my head!
(my Dad talking there)
and C) My youngest sons name is Merlin. He's 6 1/2! (yrs old)
Someday I'm sure he will fit this bike! OR, ...he can sell it & go to college!

Hey! Why are you lollygagging, mugging for the camera when you don't have the Corky art finished?
And I got the Super Sport's fender stays painted; my part's done -- what's taking you so long!?

You met 'em!
Anyway, I'm going to get some velum & check what I have so far.
So it'll be monday before I can get that to you.
N.A.H.B.S. is tomorrow thru sunday, so I'll only have late nights to finish it all up.
The wife says "Good on you, for cracking the whip!"
And I think Cyclotoine has written the Corky into his will!
No worries, it'll all come together quite nicely in the end.
So I'm not going to troll the forums anymore until you have the artwork!
Ciao 4 now,
Dr. D

Oh yeah. I forgot to say... Sweet RIde!! FYI some vintage gurus who I have never met are having a little meet and greet at the bike shop with the gran sport/rally group. I am guessing it is one of them who owns it. Maybe I can sympathy plea them into selling the Rally RD separate.
