2005 Grey Ghost 5 speed......

Thinking of getting one for riding around the neighborhood. Have a road bike but want
something for just messing around. Just maybe waking up and going for a local ride
in my pajamas and slippers...........real casual like....
anyone have one? are they made ok? going for about $250. I know they are not like
the original but I can't afford one of those!

I've been working on a 10 speed Grey Ghost, based on one of these '05s. I doubt if the project will ever be finished in time to tell you whether it rides well or not, but it's a decent replica of the originals - far from spectacular though. The original run of repops in the late '90s were far closer to the original electroforged frames and looked much nicer.

Not classic or vintage, but I just saw one of the Felt cruisers at the LBS...

The one I saw was the MP, and I would prefer another, but for a little over $500 you get a modern twist on a classic tank style bike with the modern componentry and aluminum frames. The MP is a 3 speed with coaster brake. They are fairly heavy, but definitely not as heavy as a classic tank bike... It even has a one piece crank.

Of course with that said, I did see a restored Columbia from the 50's in the same shop a year or two back, and it looked a lot better... of course I am sure it would cost a lot more.

It's not that I don't know what a Grey Ghost looks like, it's that I wanted to see pics of yours! We're not really muscle bike-centric here, but I love 'em. The "this thread is useless without pics" line is a bit of a meme from the SS/FG forum - sorry if it didn't communicate. Loooovely bikes!

I had a 98 Appple Krate repop. It was really nice, hard to tell from the original, but they added a third letter to the S/N to keep people from getting fooled into paying too much. Although if you filled that number and repainted, it would take someone pretty skilled. The only thing really off was the electro forge seams. They made it as a smooth ridge. The next thing was the rims, cheap non knurled, and shimano rear hub. The chrome SUCKED, and they weighed a ton like the originals, lol. Here's mine that I bought for $140 locally, and sold for $200 plus $97 shipping.,,,,BD

got the grey ghost today...very nice! in original box, nicely packed.better than i expected.
put it together, no instructions so i just looked at some online pics to see how things fit.
pumped up the tires, spent some time attaching the front drum cable, adjusted, sat on it to see if everything was adjusted ok..................BLAM! the rear tube blew out!! i didn't have a tire gauge so i just guessed...
i actually felt the tire 4 or 5 times and thought..maybe too much? nah! so i let some out of the front..just in case. no test ride tonight. getting a tube tomorrow and finding my tire pressure gauge.
30-35 psi rear....45 front. should have fun taking rear wheel off. have to disconnect gear cable and
drum brake assy, and whatever else. then re install and adjust.......man...just want to ride it!
THEN i can let you know how it is. just looks cool sitting in the living room......brings me back to a better time...
