Nothing like having your instincts validated! Thanks for all the good info and - you're right - having patience is a must. The good thing is everytime I refresh CL there's another 20 entries posted. Hopefully the wait won't be too bad.

I have no bike at the moment and the waiting game is frustrating as I want to get out and ride!
Orpheus is this the person who had all his bikes in storage in SF? He also had a Firenze GL550 or something, but I was advised to stay away from Firenzes. And also, I know what you mean. I really want to get out and ride soon too, especially since the weather is getting nicer.

Does anyone know if this bike is worth checking out? It doesn't seem like the poster knows too much about it. was hoping someone here could help.

I have found some amazing deals at garage sales. Now, I collect middleweights. But it's not always what they have in the laneway. Sometimes there are jewels hiding in the garage. Pick garage sales in better neighbourhoods. I'm not into the lightweights but I have seen some fancy looking bikes selling for $30-40 dollars. I don't think I've spent more than $20 for a middleweight. Some in never ridden condition. If your into the hunt it's worth a try. Who knows what else you might find. I've taken to collecting antique typewriters as well. Can find them for pittance. $3 for a 1953 Underwood newspaper edition(was a pain getting that one home on the bike). The deals are out there. You only pay too much if you are in too much of a rush. Hope you find your ride.

If you're 5'8" you're going to squish your grapes on that one - it's pretty big. Also, it has steel wheels/bars/cottered steel crankset and the much maligned (for good reason) Simplex red RD. Might put a hurt on your wallet with the non-standard French threaded BB.

Still, if in decent shape it'll go pretty quick at $60.

............Now, the truth is I look at Craig's list 5 times a day and when I see something I want I call instantly. I learned this after missing a Peugeot PX-10 for $45. If you look at the amount of time some of us spend looking for bikes, the price doesn't seem quite so good
I agree that the Special Road Racer isn't worth much, but a decent level Fuji will sell well here, and it doesn't have to be in tip-top shape to get north of $150.

Also, checking CL only 5 times a day will put you mostly on the "miss" side of the ledger here. Competition is fierce, and the difference between hit or miss is counted in minutes on the good ones.

Yes. He's a nice guy who's in 'recycling' and finds all these bikes, fixes them up, and sells them on CL. It seems he does a brisk business, and based on everybody else's observations on the red-hot bay area seller's market, can charge a nice premium for his efforts. I also saw the Firenze (on CL) but also saw another posting somewhere here to stay away from them. The weather is just crazy nice here in SF right now. I'll just keep running instead until I get that ride .

Tell me about it - I've ridden my ass off for 4 consecutive days. I wanna go out again today, but my quads are lecturing me. The weather's gonna be good through the weekend, though.....

here on the east coast it was in the 70's yesterday and it is going to snow 6 to 8 inches tomorow. I want to get to San Francisco to see the red headed conjours in the park.

Now I see a Puegot PX-10 for $80 on CL. Anyone know if this is a good deal or not? I have a feeling I'm just getting too antsy.

That's no PX10, but a more base level model

Uo or AO8, with a replacement fork. Possible crash damage. Avoid.
