Help identifying Campy Crank
 

I'm hoping that the collective wisdom here can help me identify the crank on a Colnago I picked up on eBay.

The arms are non-fluted, while the spider is. Campy logo etched in black on the arm. Backside of the arm reads 170 Strada, and then the number 22 in a square.

Any idea what these are?

Yep, you can also tell cause SR's have a cut out on the rings where it comes to the bolt. NR didn't have those cutouts.

Where's the bike? That crank looks pristine.

It's in very very good shape, as is just about everything else on the bike -- a 56cm Colnago Super, mostly N. Record parts.

What do you mean by "a cut out on the rings where it comes to the bolt?" I recently picked up a set of these cranks for $60. They're in nearly perfect condition but don't have the same chainrings as the OP's. My guess is that they shouldn't have the enclosed cutout like the ones pictured on the Nuovo Record? Or does it not matter?

Pastorbob, in your two pics the one on the left has the Super Record chainrings (outer chainwheel has a kind of "V" shaped cutout where the arm attaches, the inner chainring has no oval cutouts at all), the one on the right has the NR type chainrings, where both outer and inner rings have oval cutouts in the body of the ring.

Ah ha! Now I understand. Thanks! To be correct, however, the Super Record crankset should have the same rings as the one pictured on the left? If one was to mount the N/R chainrings on a Super Record crank arm, would this be akin to trying to use Coffeemate in a shot of Italian Expresso?

I suppose, in reality in the earlier years there was absolutely no difference between NR and SR except for the actual chainrings, so the correct thing to say would be "I have super record chainrings" rather than "I have a super record crank". Just a bit of anal-ism there. And then, some people would mix the two (OMG!)

I was under the impression that the later super record cranks were machined slightly different to reduce stress in the crack prone area. In addition I believe these re 1986 and 11 would be 85.. anyone?

The crankarms are all "record" the chainrings are Nuovo or Super.

yes the non-fluted cranks were the first in which campy addressed and improved the spider-to-arm transition to help alleviate the cracking problem
