Bikes: 7-Eleven Eddy Merckx, Vitus Futural, Catamount FRS, Colnago SL, SS MTB

My Eddy Merckx was owned/raced by Tommy Matush of the 7-Eleven team. I've had it repainted nearly exactly as it was originally, and the parts on it are whatever I could find that I wanted to put on it, as I have no idea what was originally on it. It would have been stupid of me to keep it as it was when I got it, because he'd crashed it and repaired it and 1/3 of the pain on the top tube was missing. It still has its history, and I know what it is. I'll probably get it repainted again within the next 5 to 10 years, as there are flaws in the current paint job that drive me nuts.

It's not crystal clear, but it sounds to me like it was for training, and as a substitute bike for the road team... so I don't think that the bike was ever actually raced in the Olympics.

He did say he trained on it in Tokyo. I hope to see the bike tomorrow and learn more.

Lynn, we know you will find out the full low down on this bike. It is one of the more interesting listings for a Paramount. One that might really attract some attention would be the Paramount that is pictured in the ad with Jim Palmer from the early '70s. It would probably pull some big dollars if listed.

Can't wait to hear what you find out on this Olympic bike.

It sold for $780, pretty cheap IMHO.

Sold for $780. Seems about right for a clean bike with a well-documented history and a few changes along the way. It was, after all, a team-issued bike, even if its Olympics experience was limited to training. There is also a nice story in the son, father, grandfather Olympic link.

I never did make it up there. Seller was willing, but I could not find the time.
