Sturmey-Archer help

Okay, all of you crusty vintage mechanics; I'm midway through the dis-assembly of an AW hub. Sheldon's instructions read:

2. Unscrew the right-hand ball ring and internal assembly

Next, use a hammer and punch to unscrew the right-hand ball ring

My question is: where do I place a punch in order to unscrew this thing? Any help appreciated.

should be an area that looks like a spanner-wrench would go (photo 2).

Bikes: Giant Excursion, Raleigh Sports, Raleigh R.S.W. Compact, Motobecane? and about 20 more! OMG

A screw driver may slip, try a drift punch or IIRC Sheldon Brown uses an old bottom bracket shaft with a notch ground in it. Once you have done it a couple of times it becomes second nature. As a general rule though the hubs need very little service. I have one that hasn't been torn down in over 10,000 miles to the best of my knowledge (may be more than that). As long as you keep a bit of oil in them and ride them regularly they will apparently run indefinitely
