Raleigh, what year do you think

I have this raleigh record and it is cleaning up real nice. The cerial# is 619667 on the jug at the seat. It has suntour gt rear and spirt fron derailers, no name on the crank, cherry center pull brakes , no name handle bars and the stem says lou in script letters, messenger seat, steel wheels with waffled sides .For a record it has a nice headset. Any help on guessing the year?

If you don't get a quick enough response you can look thru these catalogues https://www.sheldonbrown.com/retroraleighs/index.html

Boy, you've got a real conglomeration of parts there. The color scheme is the same as a '71 Record I had. I can't make out the downtube decal; is it script, or block letters?

Nope - and that front derailleur might as well be raised another 15" for all the good it's doing there.

Tolfan,
I think you have a Record salad, I'd bet the factory brakes would have been Weinmanns or Dia-Compes, if the Derailleurs had been Sun-tour, they prolly would have been Raleigh marked. Or at least the rear.

Looks like a great frame though!

I think a clear upgrade would be wheels like these:

The frame is in nice shape no bad scratches or rust and the head badge is in real good shape. I like the 3 bolt chain ring , easy to take apart and clean. Now that I know it's just a mosh of parts I can build it up into something decent, no worry about spoiling an all original. Still dont know what year. I kind of like the cherry brakes.

If one of the deraillers are original you can find the date through https://www.vintage-trek.com/component_dates.htm. It will give you an idea when the bike might have been built.

The original derailleurs would've been Huret Allvits.

Frames with a head badge that read "Nottingham" are pre '75.
To find out for sure remove the bb spindle the date of manufacture is stamped on the spindle.
All components appear to be original.
If you replace the steel bits with aluminum you will reduce total weight by 6 - 8 lbs.

I sold that exact frame, fork, headset, stem ,saddle & post on CL for $80 in 3 hrs. I bought the whole bike for $5 because the wheels were shot. I added a set of north road clone type handle bars from a beat Motobecane mixte (bent fork) and advertised it as a "Great winter fixed gear bike, classic lugged steel frame, long horizontal drop out, made in england, plenty of clearance for fenders and larger tires." Sell it on the Philly CL, they might even drive somewhere to meet you half way....

I like the estimate of about 1971 for your bike. It's definetly a pre-1973. I have a 73 Record, it was made in Ireland, NOT England and does not have a Nottingham badge. Someone did you a favor and replaced that awful Huret Allvit derailer. Any Suntour is a major improvement. That stem is another giveaway that its a pre-73. The stem on the 73 is round off at the top, more like the stems of later years. Other than that, the bike looks almost identical to mine, same color combo and close in frame size. The pie plate looks original so the wheels/rims are probably original. I don't think the 71 would have stem shifters. The 73 has Huret downtube shifters. I'm not sure about your bars, but by 73, they were alloy. That green color is almost the same as mine and it is a real nice color once it's cleaned up.

The '71 had a chrome stem; they switched to alloy GBs the following year. The bars were Maes pattern, but steel, not alloy. Downtube shifters were standard. The wheels are probably old Rigida Super Chromix, or older Arayas (based on the waffled shoulders) and not original. Originals were chrome Sturmey-Archer, and the spoke protector was clear plastic. The drilled-out cogs on the freewheel are another clue it isn't original. The crankset looks similar to the original Nervar but it's an old Sugino. I can make out in one of the pics that your brake levers (and thus probably the calipers) are Altenbergers, which along with Weinmanns were standard. The serial number on my '71 was HA4-something; I believe yours must be a '67 - '70, given it's older style serial number. The Bronze Green and White color scheme was also available in those years.

redneckwes is right; Records do have a nice ride quality. I just picked up a 23 1/2" 1974 Record yesterday. Once I got it operational and took it for a spin I was immediately reminded.

I pulled the spindle and repacked the loose bearings and did not think to look at the numbers on it. I have a nos suntour 3000 siting on the kitchen table that I was thinking about putting on just because its handy and kind of chunky looking so it will match.I like the sadle.I know the record is a low end bike but this one rides kind of good and the look is real classic/vintage. What do we call the forks ?
