Is this '64 Dawes Galaxy 30A worth $100?
Should I do it? Paint finish is definitely rough. I'm most concerned about the BB shell, and am asking for more details there.

Wow, 46 looks and no opinions. That has to be a first for this forum
It's hard to say much from the pics, but it appears that a set of wheels and you would be o.k. Don't know if I'd go $100.00. I think the problem is that older Dawes aren't well know in the states, where most of the forum members seem to be located; so very hard to give an informed opinion. Did you get the additonal info you asked about? Can you post pcis with more details showing?

What about the BB shell? Are you worried about condition or threading? I would have thought that it would be BSC threading. Raleigh had their own standard, but Dawes was independent.

Is this the same bike that is currently posted in the Boston Craigslist? If yes it has been posted on and off for the last several months. I corresponded with the Seller a few months back and came away believing the bike was a 1960's model. The asking price at the time was higher so I didn't make an offer. As I recall this model had straight gauge Reynolds 531 main frame and high tensile forks and stays much like the Raleigh Super Course. I would try and talk the Seller down a little more since you can usually find similar complete bike (Super Course, Dawes etc . . .) on Ebay or Craigslist for not much more. That being said I do have a 1973 Raleigh Super Course which I like a lot.

Thanks for the replies. I was trying to figure out why I'd gotten nothing.... It is Boston Craigslist, joychri, so thanks for the info. I would definitely try to talk down.
For further help, any speculation on the BB shell? It looks pretty rough to me. I've cropped the photo.

It's hard to tell from the photo if that's a lot grime and a bare spot on the chainstay or if it's taken some serious pounding. Definitely a potential deal breaker though.
