Peugeot Identification (#1)
I need someone's opinion on what kind of Peugeot this is, and whether or not it's worth 'picking up'.
It says "Sprint" on the top tube, and is heavy as HELL. Couldn't get a serial number..sorry about that.
It looks to be in fairly sorry shape, so take that into consideration to see if it's worth saving or not.

1. Why couldnt you get the serial number?
2. What country is it located in?
3. As far as I can tell 501 tubing wasnt available on a U.S. Peugeot until 1984 but those decals are pre-'84.
Its either a non-U.S. model or soemone slapped a 501 decal on an older bike. The color looks to be a non-U.S. color as well.

I've got an uncomfortable feeeling about this one. That decal scheme was last used in 1983, but according to my literature Peugeot did not introduce a reynolds 501 model, the PGN10 until 1984. Reynolds 501 is a good, mid-range tubeset and typically builds up to bicycles around 23-25 lbs, depending on the components, so it should not be "heavy as hell". Also a mid range model would not have a spoke protector plate, unless the frame was outfitted with some junk, which may be contributing to the weight. Also, the mid-range models from this period typically used full chrome forks, with the 1/2 chrome forks reserved for the entry models. I would also expect the tubing decal on the down tube, versus the seat tube, for this decal scheme. To finish things off, I've seen some Sprints with this decal scheme but they typically had Carbolite 103. They would be several pounds heavier, have a spoke protector plate and 1/2 chrome forks.
Of course, Peugeot had an abundance of models, so I may be wrong, but I'd be cautious. I'd check out a few more things, specifically whether the dropout has an integral derailleur and most importantly, the seatpost size.
