stupid pawn shop

they have a ~2000 univega modo volare (columbus tron tubing, campy daytona parts w/ some tricked out items (like a mutant stem for one)...for $300, right at the resale price. How did they price it so high? I talked to the manager, he seemed clueless as to the bike, but was firm on the price.

Not really old enough for classic and vintage.
But from the prices that I've seen that doesn't seem too high.

that is a bargain, the shop around the corner from me would want at least $600.

Stupid? Sounds more like informed to me.

I would agree, but Pawn brokers are supposed to know the pricing limits, that is how they make the big dollars... of course, they only gave the guy $25. for the bike he left and said it was because the pawn shop owner was being craritable that day...

I have seen lots of overpriced bikes at Pawn shops, and a couple times it didn't take more than 5 seconds to drop the price 30%. Some of the ones I saw were literally trash...and priced at over a couple hundred dollars. Maybe it's the shops around me. I gave up on them.

most of the pawn shop bikes here are cheapo mtn. bikes, way over priced (but still less than ~$200). That's why I was surpised to 1. spot the univega amongst all the cheap bikes, and 2. see they wanted $400 for it.

Here's one even more stupid: The corner thrift has had a '60's Puch ladies 3-speed for the past three weeks, unsold at $40. I'd have gone maybe $25 -- the paint had some bad scratches. So after three weeks and no action, what do they do? Up the price to $70. Their idea of market positioning, I guess.

a pawn shop in a brutal part of town has an early 90s Answer Manitou mtb with a mix od xt, ringle, and avid parts. The frame is cracked. They want $1600 for it. I think they should stick with selling stereos and dvds.
