Max Pressure on aray rim?

It's got a marking on it that says "Araya w/o HP"

I did the search for it, but couldn't find the thread, and wanted to confirm that these are High Pressure rims, that hook on to the bead. I remember a discussion of it a while back, but no combo of search terms got me to the spot I was looking for.

I was cleaning the rims on the C&V/beater bike, and saw the w/o HP designation... I had been running the tires at a lower pressure as I wasn't sure if they were hooked rims, but it would be nice to be able to crank up the pressure on the gatorskins.

w/o HP = wired on, high pressure

Run your finger along the inside edge of the rim--do you feel a lip?

I didn't recall one when I mounted the tires, but it could have just felt differently than I thought. I couldn't find the label at the time, but when I was cleaning the rims just now I saw the etching.

Mistake in the thread title... should have read "Araya". Thanks for the info... just couldn't remember for sure, glad to know I can put in more than 70ish.

If the rim has smooth inside walls, keep the pressure below 80 PSI.

I think you have to be careful about checking the rims, too. I have a set of Araya 27x1-1/4 alloy rims that have a rolled lip that makes them look like hooked rims, but they're not.

Bikes: Still have a few left!

Yeah, most of my 27" Araya rims have that rolled lip but it doesn't work like a modern hooked rim. With these rims, I regularly go to 80-85 pounds without any problems but had blowoffs at 95-100. Don
