Galmozzi mid-1960s LOL (Labor of Love!)
After waiting approximately 6 months, my Galmozzi arrived from Germany, unfortunately suffering some stay damage from some very rough handling along the way (shipped via DHL sea shipping container). Arrived back in February, only to be deemed "unclaimed by recipient" and returned to Germany. Did my best to try and stop it, but as some of you probably know, talking to the folks at the USPS can be frustrating. After following the status, finally asked my local Postmaster if she would investigate, and she was able to track the frame down and finally have it delivered to me earlier this month.
I was able to get the stays back into shape, but the left chainstay suffered a dent that I will have to live with. The frame had been repainted/re-decaled as a "BALDI". Some paint chips revealed the original orange-red paint, so once I straigthened the stays out, I started to chip away at the overpaint with a thin brass guitar/bango pick, and found the original paint to be in pretty decent condition. The blue overpaint chipped off easily, leaving a thin coat of gray primer below. The gray primer is very dry and powdery, so extra fine "0000" steel wool was used to lightly "sand" off the primer. Have it nearly cleaned of the overpaint, but the difficult part is removing the remaining gray primer in the lug shorelines. Plan on trying some "Goof-Off" on a q-tip on the shorelines.
Attached some photos of the frame with overpaint as provided by the seller, and a few photos of the paint removal in progress.
Lots more photos can be viewed at the following Flickr link:

Decals are in transit from Greg Softley. Will do some limited paint touch-up, and will most likely repaint the white DT panel.

Fantastic. Well done on the thoughtful restoration. Can't wait to see this one built up. What are your plans for it? I would be thinking early campy record, no-record hubs and universal 61 brakes, maybe with a magistroni cottered crank and a plastic unicanitor. Regardless, that's a Grail frame you have there, for me, anyway.

More patience than I would have. I like the original colors.

Yes, repainting is the easy way, but wanted to save the original paint. Yes, a bit of tedious work, but really not as bad as it looks as the overpaint was hard/brittle and dry scraped off quite easily (thank God).
Chris Kvale does excellent paint work for sure.

Maybe the rooster is bad luck - my galmozzi took a crazy route too (not as bad as yours, and no frame damage). The headbadge on these is just fantastic. Yours looks close to mine in features/model years.

Although I did hear today that they are working on reversing the genetic code to create a chicken dinosaur.
Thankfully, pterodactyls or pteranodons are not related to the chicken.

She'd cut you off just as fast as she stops me in my tracks.
Heck, she's in Guatemala right now doing some work and she still used Facetime last night to ask about all of the charges on the account.......
I blamed it on the kids, of course.

Yeah, way after you forget all the work involved, you will have a great story to go along with your bike (and every great bike needs a great story).
