Schwinn Tandem Question

I have a fantastic '71 DeLuxe Twinn that I've been running the standard 26" tires on.

While browsing the CL today, I noticed this https://denver.craigslist.org/bik/378053258.html and it made me wonder "Would I get a smoother ride and less twitch if I were running ballooners?"

Has anybody tried this or experienced an advantage or disadvantage?

I really dont like the idea of running it w/o the orig fenders that I worked so hard to clean

My tandem could use just a little smoothing and I'm open to suggestions (Maybe I'm looking the wrong way and should be thinking about super skinny slicks ?? )

Thanks in advance

(Oh and uh, is this one of you good folks?? : https://denver.craigslist.org/bik/378082974.html

Wouldn't that give you a single speed bike with a coaster brake? I have a Twinn Sport Schwinn tandem, which is lighter than the DeLuxe Twinn, and I sure wouldn't want to give up the drag brake and front brake.

You may want to ask this in the Tandem Forum, I'm sure you'll get a more knowledgeable reply than I am capable of;-)

This guy's bikes are a mismash. The '60s/'70s Twinns never came with with the S-2 rims and I don't think they would necessarily ride better with them. I don't think they look better with them pesonally (I like the fenders). He had an early '60s Traveler also that had the wrong seat, stem, grips and fenders. "Restored" with missing paint, missing parts, wrong parts, way high prices, etc. ... right ...

I like the fenders too

I just thought I should double check about the tires as I'm always looking for more comfort

(Bob, at some point this person must have been involved with a salvage yard or something..?? That would be at least 1 explanation for all of the mishmash ehh?)

I find that wider tires do provide more comfort, but at a cost of speed and pedaling effort. I think that getting over 1.5" is the major hurdle, though, and your returns may diminish after that. I love fenders, too, but I live in western Washington, so I pretty much have to.

I've never liked S-6 tires on my twinn, so much so I just scored a pair of 26" wheels for it, I'll report back after I install them. I need to relace them first. Seems they were laced with the valve hole in the wrong spot between spokes.
