LBS sent me home with this

I went to my LBS to get a star nut set for my BF SSFG IRO, and they sent me home with a:

Chrome Schwinn Voyageur 11.8!!! complete except for a saddle

Now I need to do some research to find out exactly what is original and what's not, and it needs a serious cleaning. The top tube is kind of messy, so I'll have to find out what the issue is there.

Pics after the battery charges back up. Went out to take one and the camera died.

Great find! My chrome 11.8 is my all time favorite bike.

Here's a page from a 1980 catalog showing all the original equipment...

These frames are clearcoated and is probably what is messed up on yours. You can strip the clearcoat off and it will look amazing! Of course you will then need a decal set. I have an estimate for the decals from jrrestore and will be glad to send it to you if you'll PM me.

Now lets see those photos!

Well, I couldn't wait for the battery to recharge so the bike is already completely disassembled. The seatpost came out - but struggled. The stem out, the BB out. It's all good. Glad to hear the TT may just be a clearcoat issue. The decals are there but some are peeling and weak. The bike appears to be original down to the reflectors except the UG chain shows no sign of a gold color. The gold cassette really doesn't have the wear I would have expected for it to have the chain changed - oh well.

Serial # from the BB: 81 05 18106

Frame size: It's a big one, measures 25" from the crank center to the top of the TT.

Yeah, I had paint marks like that on mine too. They came right off with the clearcoat when I stripped it.

From: Take a deep breath, and ask--What would Sheldon do?

Bikes: Nishiki Nut! International, Pro, Olympic 12, Sport mixte, and others too numerous to mention.

Why does vpiuva no longer exist?

Strip it, you'll be amazed how nice it will look. Add some replacement decals, and they become a work of art, lol. I love mine too. I've kept it indoors since I finished it a few weeks ago. The components look
original on your table shot. I cannot make out the derailleur though if original will be Shimano Altus LT.

Here's mine, stripped, rebuilt, and new decal set......

Looks like peeling chrome on the side of the top tube. (In sour grapes mode).

That's a good question. I sent him the decal price quote by PM last night, at his request, and he hasn't responded since. But then a certain BF member named sefb222 never responded either after I went to the trouble of sending photos and dimensions to JR so he could work up the price quote for 11.8 decals. What's with these 11.8 newbies?

Hey, I'm here. Jus' been workin' on de bike. Trying to decide if new decals are appropriate. Another BFer contacted me with possible artwork. That'll help on the price. Pics of the reassembly tomorrow. Trying to decide on cable housing color.

I see BD and McD both appear to have the 25" frames, as do I. Guess only the big guys wanted a chrome bike back then

NICE, like the honey with chrome too! Here's mine lately. I changed the tires, handlebar wrap, seat to a Professional, and put the shifters coming out of the drops. I couldn't deal with the housing lump right by the brake hoods. All is good now!,,,,BD
