Colnago cable routing help?

Hey all, about to string up my shifter cable on my Colnago

And have some questions for the experts...how do I do this?

I've included a pic, there are two small cable stops underneath the BB.

It seems I run shifter housing to the downtube bosses, then bare cable down to the BB, then what?

Do I need some part? Seems like short plastic tubing is needed so the cable doesnt rub against the paint in these little bosses under the BB.

Any help appreciated.

The cable is probably designed to just run on the shell itself. I've seen it before. There is most likely a standard housing stop on the chainstay where you would bare cable to. From there on, it's just the typical piece of housing to the derailleur.

Look at these pictures for nice detailed photos of a perfect bike set up perfectly, the last in the series shows the cable routing.

Yes, fantastic pictures, and great advice, as well. He is another tremendous asset to the Classic Cycling Community.

I first ran across his site while looking for hints on buffing parts, then stumbled on his pictures. Imagine my amazement!

yeah those photos are awesome,

a real cable housing wont fit into the cable stops under the BB though, on this De Rosa, there appears to be a narrow plastic sleeve that is used. That looks like it would be perfect.

I emailed Mr Dobbins and got a response right back within 30 mins:

Hi Jeremy,

The "plastic sleeve" you refer to on my De Rosa is actually plastic liner from inside "lined" brake cable housing. Just cannibalize some old lined cable housing that you hopefully have laying around, or I'll be glad to send you some if you need (I assume you only need a couple of pieces no more than six inches).

Ray

I just got done cannibalizing some brake housing and its going to work great.
