Is it me or are we to a point that nearly every major bicycle brand comes from one of two factories in the world; one in Japan and one in China? Seems like Trek owns everything, but builds nothing.

Well you know, that's why we like those vintage bikes...time to support your local builder when it's time to get one of those 'new' classics

Two bicycle factories? Maybe two thousand! In addition to China and Japan, other Far east countries such as Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam are big players these days. And of those, Japan is probably the smallest. Of course you're bemoaning the lack of mass production, North American manufacturing. It may be true for the US, but the business is doing well in Canada. North of the border, you can buy $99 Raleighs and CCMs with Canadian manufactured frames and assembly.

Trek manufactures most of their bikes in the US. There are
some Treks that are produced in China.
That said, this isn't exactly a Classic & Vintage question.
