Ahh. I assume you were the one that got the steal on Ebay. Although I recently picked up an America of my own, I regret not bidding higher on that one. I could have used a lot of the components to restore my America and another bike. It would have been cheaper for me to buy that bike and sell the frame than buy the parts separately.

But it reminds me of a question I've had from looking at all the catalogs and photos, as well as encountering a bunch of Fujis over the years. Is it my imagination, or did Fuji have a tendency to equip a lot of their bikes in very similar ways over the years, sometimes making the difference between one year of one model and another year of a different model remarkably slight? I'm thinking that a lot of their bikes had some variation on a Sugino Mighty Something crank and Cyclone derailleurs, etc. It makes it hard to keep track. And the variations on S-10S/S-12S with the LTD versions thrown in creates a whole genre unto itself. Heck, I could probably keep myself busy just collecting variations on those!
But wow I'd like an Opus III sometime. Scott's sure is purty!

A little inspiration for the Opus hunters:
I have a little Opus network going and just helped another forum member with a local Opus catch. I know of another one that's available. I don't know what size, what year or condition but it's fairly easy to find out. The only thing I know for certain is that the owner knows what he has and what it's worth. I currently have one forum member who's looking for a 60-62 cm. If anyone wants me to inquire further on their behalf just drop me a PM.

I got the America today, and while it's kinda grungy and scruffy right now, I think it will shape up to be a fun bike. Not a showpiece, but I wasn't expecting one. Some parts are not original, as I knew... the wheels are a stray set of 27 inchers, with Weinmann concave rims and Phil Wood hubs. I'll keep the hubs, ditch the rims. The crank is a Mighty Compe, not a Mighty Tour, and it's 167.5, so that will be gotten rid of too. And finally, the shifters are the elegant Cyclone down tube model, not the original barcons. The good news is I have a couple of Mighty Tour cranksets and several sets of SunTour barcons. And I have a buddy who might have a set of original America wheels! Woo hoo!
Oh, and the serial number is FJ000085, which I believe makes this a 1981 model, made in October of '80, right?

Well, gang, I got my wish... one of them at least! An early 80s Fuji America should be arriving for me this coming week. It's not 100% original... the wheels are oddly 27" with Weinmann rims and Phil Wood hubs, and the crankset is a Mighty Compe double instead of the Mighty Tour triple, and the shifters are down tube shifters, not bar-cons. But I can take care of most of that, and the bike itself should be a blast!
Now, if I can just get a hold of the guy I sold my '77 S-10S to, back in 1980, and talk him into parting with it....

Another Fuji Opus III for you Fuji enthusiasts to ogle. I believe it's an '83. Beautiful shape, with just a few scrapes and chips on the frame. It's all original save the wheelset, Campy Victory RD, Victory or Triomphe FD, Campy Synchros shifters, and Regina Extra freewheel. I'm not sure who thought Synchros and Victory were an upgrade over Superbe.

Recently I was up to four 1980s era Fujis. The Royale has moved on to another home, it moved so fast I was unable to get its serial number or a good finished picture.
The four models: a 21 inch 1981 Fuji Royale; a 23 inch 1981 Fuji S12S (serial # FL 011205), a 21 inch 1984 Fuji del Rey (serial # KA 401730), and a 24 inch 1983 Fuji Touring Series IV (not sure about the first character in this serial number: PK 208772).

Unfortunately, I won't be a member long, as the frame is a bit too small for me. It's nice to have seen it up close though. Very impressive frame construction, which I assume was handbuilt, despite a possibly early '82 frame date (research here indicates handbuilts were only produced '84-'85)?

I think it's officially 58cm, which is the center to top measurement. However, I'm measuring 56.5 cm center to center on both the top tube and seat tube.
Since it's not original, I'm also willing to part it out, unless there is a plea here to keep it as whole as possible, which is a persuasive argument to me. There have already been inquiries about parts, incidentally.

Finally got some pictures of my bikes, minus the POS that I bought two years ago. As many of you know, I am a relative newb to biking and to vintage bikes.
The Team and America have already been posted on here somewhere, so I won't post as many pics, but the Opus is a recent acquisition and the Special Road Racer has been a work in progress. Everything needs to be cleaned.
It appears that the Opus has the original wrap underneath the white. However, I do not know what kind of shape it is in yet. In the case that the burgundy wrap is in bad shape, does anybody know of a suitable alternative that will match?
Unfortunately, the Opus also had the brakes/levers replaced with Modolo for reasons unknown. These will be replaced someday, in addition to the pedals. I will be looking for a saddle similar to the one on the Team to replace the ugly Centurion one. Does anybody with that saddle have recommendations?
The Special Road Racer has been the bike I tinker with the most. As many of you can tell, I swapped out the cranks, brake levers, FD, and RD. The cranks that I had on previously were in pretty rough shape, but I did keep everything that I removed in case I want to restore it later. I would have really preferred the silver "Fuji" branded cranks, but I could not track any down so I went with a set that came off of a Royale. I am planning on adding fenders and barcons that I recently came across. I have also been considering a front rack, but I will probably not spend the money on it. However, I did put the Fujita saddle back on after hearing what others thought of them. After some time, I came to appreciate it as well.

oops sorry i looked it up on classic fuji and the mixte is the only one in this color for that year but hey I have no clue other than it is a tad rusty. And not going back in the original paint,close to it but not original.
