Fuji Suncrest Mountain Bike

1 Attachment(s)
I bought this bike new in the mid-80s, don't remember when exactly, but your post helped me. At first I rode it a bunch and even raced it, but then it just sat around as I moved several times and ran instead. I had to quit running 6 mos ago (knee injury from playing college football) and started riding it on 10 or 15 mi jaunts 5 to 7 days a week. I wouldn't trade it straight up for a new mountain bike. Attached is a file with decode info and a picture of it. All I've done to it is switch out to a new seat, add a water bottle bracket, add new tires, add a tire pump and turned the shifting and braking systems - otherwise it's totally original except for scratches. Thanks for the info in this thread!

I just bought a 1977 Juji with the serial number "77I00082" from the original owner.

I have an older Fuji America frameset on hand that seems to contradict the ser# scheme a bit?

Ser# is FL9183xx, and it is definitely an early, pre-'81 model year bike, with no top tube brake housing braze-ons, and the same minimum braze-on compliment of the '78-'80 models.

I had and sold an identical-spec '80 America frame some years back, ser# FG010xx, with the "0" in FG0 pretty clearly matching '80 production/model year.

So I think the "9" in FL9 has to represent 1979 production, Dec '79 specifically. Can't see any way the "9" could represent '89 production.

Maybe there was a transition from using the last two digits of the western calendar year during '79?

Sorry that I don't have any photos of the '79 frame yet, but here's the '80 in a complete build:

1979 Fuji Gran Tourer?

Hi there,
I'm trying to decode the 5th character in this serial number (the one that looks like a backwards 'C'). At first I thought it might be a 'J', but based on the format posted here (thanks for putting together this amazing resource, btw!), it ought to be a number. It doesn't look like it's been scratched off or compromised in any way, and I'm feeling rather dumb for possibly overlooking something obvious, but I can't for the life of me figure out what the number might be. A 3? Seems odd that they wouldn't use the right half of an 8 for a 3, though.

Posting here in hopes that others have encountered the same, and can figure this out better than I! Apologies that I don't have much other info to share - I don't know much about bikes and just picked this up at my local co-op!

**I'm new and haven't posted enough on the forum to be allowed to post pictures, but I'll follow up with a couple once I am able to!**

Backwards "C"s are generally incomplete "0"s (zeroes).

Looks like a weak/oblique strike zero to me.

Nice shot of a nice mixte; with the river as an element, the vertical shot actually works.

I went through it enough to do a test ride before I tear it back apart for fresh paint and decals. Serial number FL012798. Database indicates late 1980, but several parts have 1981 date stamps, so I'm going with 1981 model.

I just discovered I never added an "after" picture. I always liked Fuji's Rainbow Blue, like on the America. Rustoleum Cobalt Blue comes close.

Fuji Up Beat

Unusual model the Up-Beat. ladies, single chainring, single unit stem & bars. Suntour 3000 der.
F7125009 (I'll get a closeup of the serial in a few days).
Blue Wave 1987 or 1988? The Up-Beat doesn't appear in the 1987 catalog. It is in the 1988 & 1989.

I would suggest that the first character of the serial number is a mis-struck numeral "6". If so, 6 = 1986 for the year of manufacture.

The "F" may be for the manufacturer Fairly of Taiwan.

The Centurion Accordo RS model has the serial number stamped in the same location and the same mis-struck numeral "6".

SERIAL NUMBERS 1980-1987*:

Serial number format WXYZZZZZ where;

W = a letter, presumibly indicating a Fuji facility or contractor. To date, samples have included F, I , J, K & S.
X = a letter, indicating the calendar month of manufacturer (A = January, B = February, C = March, etc)
Y = a number, indicating the last digit of the calendar year of manufacture (0 = 1980, 1 = 1981, 2 = 1982, etc.)
ZZZZZ = a five digit number sequence, probably indicating frame number during month

Example: FB125349 indicates the 25,349th frame manufactured during February 1981.

*The serial number format may extend beyond 1980-1987, in either direction, but to date, data samples lie within this range.
F- Factory (likely Fuji)
H - August (possibly made for the next model year)
0- 1980
09082 - 9,082nd frame made that month

Made in 1980, possibly sold as an '81 Royal

Flea Market find

Can't post pics as I am a noob.
I picked up a Fuji 12 speed at a flea market for $10. Seller said he bought it new in mid-late 80's.
It's a little scratched up and grimy, but rides great and is road-ready.
Here are it's specs:
Serial number: F6606520
Dia-Compe brakes and levers
Suntour LaPree hubs, derailleurs, shift levers
SP-KC seat post
I'm curious about the year/model number, and if any of the parts I've listed are original
Thanks!

I have scoured my 1990 Palisade for a SN and can’t find one. It was a low-end offering so maybe it wasn’t worth a SN. It’s still useful for light errands. Posting here because it’s a slow Sunday.

1972 Finast available

Hi all. I have a Fuji Finest, serial number K7A00605. From the database, it was made in Jan 1972. I've had it since 1977. I don't ride it anymore, and would like to offer it to anyone here who wants it.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

I posted some pictures a while ago in post #305 if you want to take a look

Thanks,

~~Brownie

Saratoga

Just acquired this Fuji Saratoga. Sorry to say the frame is bent, down tube right behind the head tube. Looks like its been well used. Brooks Pro saddle, bar end shifters. Has spare spokes on the left chain stay. Dark blue.

Serial F11225962 1991 the bike came in "rainbow blue" that seems to match.

Signing in with serial # FE401420!

I was looking for a new project, specifically a mid-'80s road bike, in fair condition to bring back to life. Scouring Offerup, Craigslist & Facebook Marketplace, this '84 Fuji Del Rey came up. It is certainly dirty, missing a seatpost & saddle but otherwise very straight with clean paint and with mostly all original parts. My plan is to teardown the whole bike, clean, grease & reassemble. This is the oldest bike I've purchased and look forward to building it back up. Below are all the pics as it was today when I brought it home. Lots of work to get going on!
